Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to summarise the data, but it fails to provide a clear overview or accurately report the main features. The data presentation is fragmented and often confusing, such as stating '33%, which of the biggest percentages' without clearly identifying the activity. Several figures are mentioned without context, and the comparison between the two years is weak. The overview provided at the end is too brief and does not effectively highlight the significant trends or shifts in time allocation. To improve, you must clearly identify the categories and ensure the data points are linked to the correct activities, providing a more structured comparison between the two years.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the internal structure is weak. The use of cohesive devices is often mechanical and sometimes incorrect, such as 'After words' instead of 'Afterwards' and 'By giving general overview'. The progression of ideas is disjointed, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between 1958 and 2008. Referencing is often unclear, and the lack of logical flow between sentences hinders the overall coherence. To improve, focus on using a wider range of linking words correctly and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, logical focus that guides the reader through the data.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic structures. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'day spent by working adults' and 'it is vivid that'. The phrasing is often unnatural, and the student struggles to use precise terminology to describe the data (e.g., 'the going out with friends'). While the meaning is generally understandable, the lack of variety and the persistent errors in word formation and usage prevent a higher score. Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise terms for describing trends and proportions is essential.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that affect the clarity of the writing. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'The pie charts demonstrates'), missing articles, and awkward sentence construction. Complex sentence structures are largely absent or attempted with significant errors, such as 'which of the biggest percentages of the group'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before commas and periods. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence structures, ensuring subject-verb agreement, and using articles correctly. Reducing the frequency of these errors is necessary to improve the overall accuracy and readability of your work.
