Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have successfully identified the main features of the charts and provided a clear overview. You included data to support your points, such as the increase in working time from 33% to 42%. However, there are some inaccuracies in your reporting. For instance, you state that 'travelling to work was the least recorded percent' in both years, but the data shows it was 2% in 1958 and 7% in 2008, while other categories like 'playing sports' were 0% in 1958. Additionally, describing the 1958 figure for sports as an 'unknown number' is inaccurate; it is clearly 0%. To improve, ensure you carefully interpret all data points before writing.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response is organised into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs. You use some cohesive devices like 'Meanwhile', 'In contrast', and 'Besides' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel abrupt. For example, the final paragraph starts with 'Besides', which is not the most appropriate connector for introducing a new category of data. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus would help the progression of your ideas feel more natural and sophisticated.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportion', 'witnessed', 'downward trend', and 'shrank'. However, there are some awkward collocations and word choices. For example, 'working was dominant type' is missing an article, and 'unknown number of spent time' is imprecise. You also rely on repetitive phrasing like 'upward trend' and 'least recorded percent'. To reach a higher band, try to use more varied synonyms for 'increase' and 'decrease' and ensure your word choices are more precise when describing statistical data.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Common issues include missing articles (e.g., 'working was dominant type'), incorrect preposition usage (e.g., 'ended by 6%'), and tense inconsistencies. Some sentences are also structurally awkward, such as 'Relaxing at home at the start was with the least share at 8%'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to affect the overall clarity of your writing. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage will significantly improve your accuracy.
