Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the pie charts and makes relevant comparisons between 1958 and 2008. However, the overview is somewhat weak as it merely lists data points rather than identifying significant trends or shifts. For instance, the report mentions specific percentages for each category but fails to synthesize the information into a clear summary of the most notable changes, such as the increase in working hours versus the decrease in social time. To improve, ensure the overview highlights the most striking differences rather than just repeating figures. The response is accurate in its data reporting, but the lack of analytical synthesis limits the score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into two paragraphs, which is a basic structure. While there is a logical progression from the introduction to the body, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally awkward. For example, the transition 'Addiionally, sleeping at home, and relaxing' is a sentence fragment that disrupts the flow. Furthermore, the use of 'Futhermore' and 'On the other hand' is acceptable, but the overall paragraphing could be improved by separating the overview from the detailed data analysis. The referencing is generally clear, but the lack of sophisticated linking words makes the text feel slightly disjointed.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There are several instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'job-going adults' and 'people who rleaxed theirself'. The repetition of 'percentage' and 'percent' throughout the text indicates a limited range of lexical items to describe data. While the meaning is generally clear, the word choices are often simplistic or slightly unnatural. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more varied vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'proportion', 'figure', 'witnessed', or 'experienced', and ensure correct word forms are used.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the reader. Examples include 'the job-going adults used their time' (incorrect verb tense/structure), 'it increase to' (subject-verb agreement), and 'it goes upto' (spelling and tense inconsistency). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the placement of commas and periods. While the meaning is usually understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and spelling prevents the text from achieving a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage is essential for improvement.
