Student answer (Band 5.0)
The pie chart illustrates the proportion of activities performed by adults of a specific country in years 1958 and 2008.
Among the both years, visible rise can be seen in working hours that resulted in reduced sleep time, and less social interactions. On the other hand, people are getting more time to be in their comort zone, and enjoying sports.
Back then, people spend about 19% of their time with there families and friends. They worked, but did not spend much time in reaching to their jobs. From this, we can make a general observation of them facing almost no travel sickness or tireness, and do there activities with a positive energy.
However, combined ratios of sleep and relax time, for 1958 people was 40%, and for those living in 2008 were 38%, making it almost similar. This observation shows that despite the changes, there were still a few things that stayed constant.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to adequately summarise the main features of the data. While it mentions working hours and sleep, it lacks a clear overview and fails to report specific data points accurately. The interpretation of 'travel sickness' and 'positive energy' is subjective and not supported by the provided charts, which is a significant issue in Task 1. The response focuses more on personal speculation than on objective data reporting. To improve, you must focus strictly on the figures provided, identify the most significant trends, and use data to support your observations rather than making assumptions about the lifestyle or feelings of the people in the charts.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes mechanical, such as 'On the other hand' and 'Back then'. The transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs is abrupt. Furthermore, the referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between the two years. To improve, ensure that each paragraph has a clear focus and use a wider variety of linking words to connect your ideas more fluidly. Ensure that your comparisons are explicitly linked to the data points provided.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and contains several inaccuracies. Phrases like 'comort zone' (spelling error), 'travel sickness', and 'tireness' (non-standard word) impede the clarity of the report. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to describe trends or data comparisons effectively. You should aim to use more precise academic vocabulary, such as 'proportion', 'fluctuation', 'significant increase', or 'remained stable'. Expanding your range of collocations and ensuring correct spelling will significantly improve your score in this criterion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'Among the both years', 'people spend' (incorrect tense for past data), 'reaching to their jobs', and 'do there activities'. These errors, combined with awkward sentence structures, occasionally make the meaning unclear. While there is an attempt at complex sentences, they are often faulty. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement, correct tense usage for historical data, and proofreading for common spelling mistakes. Reducing the frequency of these errors is essential for moving to a higher band.
