Student answer (Band 6.0)
The pie charts illustrate the percentage of time during a day that working adults spend doing certain activites in the years 1958 and 2008.
In 1958, working adults spent almost one third of their day working, followed by sleeping which accounted for 32% of the day. In addition, hanging out with freinds and family made up 19% of their time, while travelling to work was the least activity adukts were engaging in coming at 2% only.
On the other hand,, the year 2008 showed a dropping trend in sleeping and relaxing with ftreinds and family dropping from 19% to 6%. However, working started to take more time from adults demonstrated by a rising trend reaching 42%.
Overall, working seemed to be taking a more significant role in daily life while other activities such as sleeping, having leisure time with freinds and family were becoming less pivotal for everyday life for adults.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the charts, identifying the key trends such as the increase in working hours and the decrease in leisure time. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. For instance, you mention that sleeping accounted for 32% in 1958 but fail to provide the corresponding figure for 2008, which is a missed opportunity for a direct comparison. Additionally, the data for 'relaxing' is not clearly distinguished from 'hanging out with friends and family'. To reach a higher band, ensure that all key data points are clearly presented and compared, rather than just listing percentages for one year in isolation.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, body paragraphs for the data, and a summary. Cohesive devices such as 'In addition', 'On the other hand', and 'However' are used to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by minor mechanical issues, such as the double comma in 'On the other hand,,'. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the transition between the description of 1958 and 2008 could be smoother to better highlight the contrast between the two time periods.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to convey the main points. You use some relevant terms like 'accounted for', 'rising trend', and 'pivotal'. However, there are several spelling errors, such as 'activites', 'freinds', 'adukts', and 'ftreinds'. These errors are frequent enough to be noticeable. To improve, you should aim for more precise vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'surpassed', and ensure careful proofreading to eliminate basic spelling mistakes that detract from the professional tone of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical inaccuracies. For example, 'the least activity adukts were engaging in coming at 2% only' is awkward and grammatically incorrect; a better phrasing would be 'the least time-consuming activity, accounting for only 2%'. There are also issues with article usage and verb tense consistency. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they indicate a need for more control over complex sentence construction and closer attention to basic grammatical rules.
