Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
You have successfully identified the main features of the pie charts and made relevant comparisons between 1958 and 2008. You highlighted the key trends, such as the increase in working time and the decrease in time spent going out. However, there are some factual inaccuracies regarding the data provided in your text; for instance, you mention 1948 instead of 1958, and you state that working time was 33% in 1958, which contradicts the provided data. To reach a higher band, ensure that all data points are transcribed accurately from the source material and that your overview clearly synthesizes the most significant changes across the two periods.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a clear attempt at an overview. You use some cohesive devices such as 'In contrast', 'Furthermore', and 'However' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by repetitive phrasing and some mechanical use of transitions. The referencing is sometimes unclear, and the connection between sentences could be smoother. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of cohesive devices and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus to enhance the overall logical progression of your report.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey the main points, using terms like 'dominate', 'reduction', and 'variation'. However, there are instances of word-choice errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'lesser changes occurred' and 'time of the day spend on'. Additionally, there is some repetition of basic verbs. To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary and ensure correct collocations. For example, instead of saying 'time... was rose', use 'time... rose' or 'there was an increase in'. Expanding your range of synonyms for 'increase' and 'decrease' will also help.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'there is a lesser changes occurred', 'their is a massive reduction occurred', and 'time of the day spend on'. These errors involve subject-verb agreement and incorrect verb forms. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to limit your score. Focus on proofreading for basic tense consistency and ensuring that your sentence structures are grammatically sound, particularly when using passive voice or describing trends.
