Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarise the main features of the pie charts comparing time allocation in 1958 and 2008. The writer identifies several key trends, such as increased working hours and reduced commuting time in 2008, alongside steady engagement in sports. However, the overview is somewhat confused by awkward phrasing like "people were choose to be anti social", and the response trails off abruptly at the end with an incomplete sentence ("furthermore, in 2008 people were more concious about themselves,"). While the main data points are touched upon, the lack of a fully developed conclusion and the incomplete ending prevent the response from achieving a higher band. Overall, the task is addressed only partially, placing it firmly at a Band 5.0 level.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The text is organized into basic paragraphs representing an introduction, an overview, and body details, but the logical progression is frequently disrupted by poor sentence structure and abrupt endings. Cohesive devices are minimal and sometimes misused, such as the awkward transition "furthermore, in 2008 people were more concious about themselves,". Referencing and referencing links between sentences are often unclear, making it difficult to follow the flow of information smoothly. There is no clear overall progression due to the fragmented nature of the sentences, particularly the cut-off concluding paragraph. These factors align the response with the descriptors for Band 4.5, rounded to 5.0 for overall structural attempt.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary used is very basic and often strained by severe word-choice and collocation errors. Examples include "two individual" instead of 'two charts', "youth employee" instead of 'employed adults', and "chilling at home" which is too informal for an Academic Task 1 response. Spelling and morphological errors are frequent, such as "comparision", "driends", "traportation", and "concious". The range of vocabulary is limited and repeatedly relies on simplistic terms like "ratio" and "contain". These persistent lexical inaccuracies cause noticeable strain for the reader, placing the response at a Band 4.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
Grammatical control is weak throughout the text, with a very limited range of accurate structures. The majority of sentences contain major errors in basic grammar, subject-verb agreement, and tense usage. Examples include "The two individual of 1958 and 2008 following pie charts demonstrate", "working adults are more likely to did job", and "playing sports remain same ratio". Furthermore, the response contains an unfinished sentence at the end, demonstrating a complete breakdown in grammatical structure. Punctuation is also erratic, with missing capitalisation at the beginnings of sentences. This frequency of basic errors places the grammar score at Band 4.0.
