Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to cover the main features of the pie charts comparing 1958 and 2008, noting trends such as the increase in working time and the slight rise in travelling. However, there are significant omissions and inaccuracies in the data reporting. For instance, the writer claims that physical activities remained stable, whereas 'playing sports' only appeared in 2008 at 7% while other activities shifted. Furthermore, the length requirement of 150 words has not been met, as the response contains only 134 words. This under-length issue, combined with incomplete coverage of all key categories (such as omitting leisure shifts entirely), pulls the task achievement score down.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay uses basic cohesive devices such as 'OVERALL', 'FIRSTLY', and 'WHEREAS', but paragraphing is extremely poor. The introduction and body points are fragmented into disjointed, single-sentence paragraphs that lack a logical overall progression. The second paragraph is a confusing run-on fragment listing various activities with punctuation errors. While there is a discernible attempt to structure an overview and body details, the mechanical and faulty use of cohesive devices, coupled with inadequate paragraphing, restricts the coherence of the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive. The student attempts some topic-related vocabulary like 'proportion', 'employed individuals', and 'declined', but makes several lexical and spelling errors, such as 'FAMLY' instead of family, 'UNWIND' instead of unwinding, and 'INTERSTING' instead of interesting. Word choices are sometimes awkward, such as 'in job has slightly incresed'. The range of vocabulary is barely adequate to communicate the task, resulting in a modest band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The writing contains a mix of simple and complex sentence attempts, but grammatical accuracy is weak throughout. There are frequent errors in verb forms, prepositions, and sentence structure, such as 'THE PIE CHARTS ILLUSTRATE HOW THE TIME IS MANAGED AND SPENT BY THE WORKING ADULTS IN PARTICULAR COUNTRY' (missing articles) and 'IN JOB HAS SLIGHTLY INCRESED'. Punctuation is also problematic, with random capitalization and misplaced commas. These frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader.
