Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarize the two pie charts comparing how working adults spent their time in 1958 and 2008. While it manages to report several data points, such as working hours increasing from 33% to 42% and sleeping hours decreasing from 32% to 25%, the overall overview is weak and lacks a clear summary of the main trends. Furthermore, there are some inaccuracies in reporting the data, such as misinterpreting travelling to work in 1958 (reported as 2% in data, but awkwardly phrased) and confusing the proportions of sports and going out with friends in 2008. The ideas are presented, but the selection and reporting of main features are not fully developed or well-organised.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.5
The text is written as a single, long paragraph without any logical division into an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. This makes the progression of ideas difficult to follow. There is an over-reliance on run-on sentences connected by conjunctions like 'whereas', 'however', and 'and', rather than clear punctuation or distinct structural breaks. Cohesive devices are attempted, but referencing and linking between ideas are often faulty and mechanical, leading to a confusing flow of information.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is quite basic and repetitive, with numerous spelling and word-choice errors that occasionally impede understanding. Examples include 'parth chart' for pie chart, 'avarge adult persons' for average adults, 'idol hours' instead of idle or equivalent hours, and 'liesuire' for leisure. The student attempts some less common vocabulary like 'community' and 'analise', but frequent errors in collocation and lexical forms limit the range and create noticeable difficulty for the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The response demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures. Most sentences consist of complex, run-on clauses linked together incorrectly without proper punctuation, leading to severe structural confusion. There are frequent errors in verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions, such as 'people are balncing thier work schedule', 'community are more focused in work life into 42%', and 'individual spend less time toward thier relaxing hours'. These persistent errors cause frequent strain and difficulty for the reader.
