Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to cover both charts, identifying working, sleeping, and other activities. However, the selection of main features is flawed, and the data is misreported or vague in several places (e.g., claiming 'Travelling to work is not crucial activity' in 1958 when it is shown, or stating confusing percentages). The overview is poorly formulated and does not clearly summarise the main trends between 1958 and 2008. Furthermore, the final paragraph digresses into irrelevant narrative ('after hard months work nothing is more invigorating...'). These limitations place the response at Band 5.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The response is divided into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The overview does not properly frame the data. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or inaccurately (e.g., 'After that the down thing is in the second chart', 'On the other hand in 2008 peoples are advanced'). Paragraphing is attempted, but ideas within paragraphs lack clear cohesion and referencing is frequently confusing, such as pronoun shifts ('his', 'her self'). This reflects the characteristics of Band 4.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The lexical range is limited and frequently inappropriate for an academic task. There are noticeable word choice errors and awkward phrasings throughout, such as 'mature individuals', 'goobs' (jobs), 'higest activity', and 'natural sight and sounds'. Spelling and word formation are problematic ('intereted', 'secong', 'centuary', 'excuration'). These errors cause considerable difficulty for the reader and impede clear communication, placing the response at Band 4.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The response shows a very limited range of grammatical structures. Simple sentences dominate, and attempts at more complex structures are heavily flawed and ungrammatical (e.g., 'The adults are really intereted in working which percentages is 33%'). Errors in verb tenses, subject-verb agreement ('peoples are', 'percentages is'), and prepositional use are extremely frequent and often distort the meaning. This falls squarely into the Band 4 descriptor.
