Student answer (Band 6.0)
The two pie chart illustrate about how the adults spent their time doing various activities in two different years particularly in 1958 and 2008.
In the year 1958, working adults generally spent their time by working which is 33% which is approx 8 hours a day. The sleeping percentage is 32% while going out with friends or family is 19%. Relaxing at home is at 8%, playing sport is at 6% and at last travelling to work is very low which is only 2%.
While in the year 2008, the working percentage increased by 9%, sleeping reduced by 7%, relaxing at home increased by 5% and playing sports is at 7% which is kinda similar to the 1958 tenure. we can see a significant change in the data going out with friends or family which got reduced by 13%. Also there is a drastic change in the data showing travelling to work which got increased by 5% which shows that people are using 2 hours in travelling.
In conclusion, we can say that in the year 1958 there is a work life balance as the working hours are 8 hours a day while in the year 2008 people are working more than 10 hours a day which shows that work life balance is not there.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The student attempts to address the task by reporting the main features of the two pie charts for 1958 and 2008. The figures cited are mostly accurate, such as working hours at 33% and 42%, and sleeping at 32% and 25%. However, there is a notable data omission: playing sports is mentioned for 2008 at 7%, but the student completely misses that playing sports was also 6% in 1958 based on the provided data. Furthermore, the final paragraph wanders into personal speculation regarding 'work-life balance' rather than strictly summarising and comparing the visual data. The overview is weak, lacking a clear summary of the major overall trends. This performance aligns best with Band 6.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is arranged into four paragraphs, including an introduction, two body paragraphs for the different years, and a conclusion, which provides a coherent overall structure. However, cohesive devices are sometimes mechanical or repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'while' and 'also'. Referencing is generally clear, but the logical progression between sentences occasionally falters, particularly in the third paragraph where the transition from sports to socialising feels abrupt. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, body details, and conclusion. Overall, cohesion is adequate for a Band 6.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms such as 'percentage', 'increased', 'reduced', and 'significant change'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and slight awkwardness, such as 'playing sport is at 7% which is kinda similar', where 'kinda' is overly informal for an academic task. Other attempts at less common vocabulary are somewhat repetitive. Spelling is generally accurate, but the lexical range lacks the flexibility and precision required for higher bands, placing this comfortably at Band 6.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'In the year 1958, working adults generally spent their time by working which is 33%...'. There are several grammatical errors and awkward constructions throughout the text, including 'The two pie chart illustrate about' (plural/singular mismatch and unnecessary preposition) and 'people are using 2 hours in travelling' instead of 'spending 2 hours travelling'. Punctuation is basic, and run-on sentences appear, but these errors do not severely impede communication. This matches the Band 6 descriptor for grammar.
