Student answer (Band 6.0)
The two pie charts compares the way in which young people spent their time on daily basis between the years of 1958 and 2008 in a specific country.
Overall, the charts show that most of the adults spent most of their time in working. Sleeping and going out with friends or family declined in 2008 while the opposite happened in case of relaxing at home and travelling to work.
In detail it can be noted from the charts that thirty three percent of the adults spent their time in working which increased to fourty two percent in 2008. Similarly, traveling to work surged from two percent to seven percent and relaxing at home increaed from eight to thirteen percent in 2008. The portion that depicts sleeping shrinked from thirty two percent in 1958 to thirteen twenty five percent in 2008. The same pattern can be seen for the activity of going out with friends or family which reduced from nineteen to six percent in 2008.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all key parts of the task well, successfully reporting the main features of the pie charts comparing working adults' time allocation in 1958 and 2008. The student identifies major changes, such as the increase in working hours and the decline in sleep and socialising. An overview is present, highlighting the general trends. However, there is a slight inaccuracy in the target audience description in the introduction, where the student refers to "young people" instead of "working adults" as stated in the prompt. Additionally, there is a minor transcription error in the data for sleeping in 2008 ("thirteen twenty five percent"). Despite these minor flaws, the task is well addressed overall, meeting the requirements for Band 6.5 or 7.0, and fits comfortably within Band 6.0 due to some under-developed comparisons.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is arranged coherently with a clear overall progression. It is divided into an introduction, an overview paragraph, and a detailed body paragraph. Cohesive devices are used to guide the reader through the data, such as "Overall", "In detail", and "Similarly". However, referencing and cohesive links are sometimes mechanical or faulty, as seen in the phrasing "the opposite happened in case of relaxing at home and travelling to work" when contrasting trends are being discussed. Paragraphing is used appropriately, but overall the cohesion lacks the flexibility and natural flow required for higher bands.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms like "surged", "shrinked" (though grammatically non-standard as a past tense, it is a lexical attempt), and "reduced". There are some spelling and word-choice errors, such as "fourty" instead of "forty", and minor lexical inaccuracies like "spent their time in working" rather than "working". Less common vocabulary is attempted with limited success. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey the main message, placing the response in the Band 6 category.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as relative clauses and comparative structures ("The two pie charts compares...", "The portion that depicts sleeping..."). There are several grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ("The two pie charts compares"), spelling errors in numbers ("fourty"), and a typo in data reporting ("thirteen twenty five percent"). While these errors are noticeable, they do not severely impede communication. The control of grammar is acceptable for a Band 6 score.
