Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count of 150 words, finishing at 145 words, which incurs a penalty under Task Achievement. Furthermore, the content suffers from major comprehension errors regarding the visual data. The student misreads several figures, such as stating 'Sleeping are in 8% and drain 7% in 2008' (when sleep was actually 32% in 1958 and 25% in 2008) and incorrectly claims that 'in 1958 no children are playing sports' (sport was not a category in 1958, and the data concerns working adults). While an attempt is made to report some figures and make comparisons, the widespread misinterpretation of the data and failure to provide a coherent, accurate overview places this response at Band 4.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The organisation of the response is extremely weak. The text is divided into two poorly constructed paragraphs that lack logical progression. Cohesive devices are either misused or absent, resulting in a disjointed and confusing read. For instance, transitional phrases like 'however little drain' and 'In addition little increase held' are ungrammatical and fail to establish clear relationships between ideas. Referencing is frequently unclear, and the mechanical repetition of sentence structures impedes the overall flow. Paragraphing is not used effectively to group related information, such as contrasting the two years systematically. This level of organisation aligns with Band 4.0 descriptors.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary used is very basic, repetitive, and frequently inappropriate for an academic task. Words and phrases like 'little drain', 'minimun icrease', and 'strength of working people' demonstrate a severe lack of lexical precision and poor collocation control. There are also noticeable word-choice errors that obscure meaning, such as using 'drain' to describe a decrease in percentage and 'centuries' instead of years or decades. The range of vocabulary is extremely limited and heavily reliant on direct lifting or awkward rephrasing of the prompt, meeting the criteria for Band 4.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

Grammatical control is weak throughout the response, with frequent errors that constantly strain the reader's understanding. The student attempts only a limited range of sentence structures, and almost all complex constructions contain severe grammatical flaws, such as 'The pie chart illustrate the comparison about the information' and 'the percentage of people that are going out with friends and family is 19% But in 2008 is 6%.' Subject-verb agreement errors (e.g., 'Sleeping are in 8%') and tense confusion are pervasive. Punctuation is also erratic, with missing capitals and fragmented sentences. This performance reflects Band 4.0 standards.
