The pie charts below show how working adults in a particular country spent their time in 1958 and 2008.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.5)

The two pie charts compare different activities performed by adults to spend their time in 1958 and 2008.

Overall, by far the most favorable task in both years was working; however, a significant increase is noticed in 2008. Sleeping was the second most popular task among adults. Meanwhile, other tasks hold only a slight share in their daily activities.

In 1958, most of the time was utilized in working (33%), while in 2008 the value increased to 42%, holding the highest proportion. This was followed closely by sleeping at 32% in 1958, whereas it decreased to 25% in 2008. Only a small proportion of 19% was contributed to going out with friends and family, whilst the value sharply dropped to 6% in 2008.

The time consumed in traveling to the office was the least contributor, standing at only 2% in 1958. At the same time, in 2008 it experienced a slight increase to 7%—the same proportion that was contributed by playing sports. Furthermore, relaxing at home contributed only 8% in 1958, but the value increased to 13% in 2008.
