Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5
The response attempts to cover the main features of the two pie charts, correctly noting general trends such as the increase in working hours and the decrease in sleeping time and socialising. However, the response falls severely short of the minimum 150-word requirement, containing only 96 words. Due to this significant under-length penalty, the development of ideas is limited, and several categories from the visual data (such as relaxing at home and travelling to work) are omitted or insufficiently discussed. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The student attempts an overall introductory summary followed by body points, but the lack of proper paragraphing and the extremely short text hinder overall coherence. Sentences are run-on and lack appropriate punctuation or capitalisation at the start of new clauses, such as 'in 1958,working rate was...'. While basic cohesive devices and transitions like 'Overall' and 'but' are attempted, the mechanical and disjointed flow prevents a clear logical progression throughout.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is relatively basic and repetitive, with frequent reliance on simple terms like 'increase', 'decrease', and 'showed'. There are some attempts at less common lexical items such as 'surged', 'plummet', and 'percentage', but these are occasionally misused in context or collocation (e.g., 'working rate'). Spelling errors and poor punctuation further restrict lexical flexibility, placing the response firmly in the lower-intermediate band for this criterion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The student relies heavily on simple and error-prone compound sentences joined by conjunctions without adequate punctuation. There is a lack of varied complex sentence structures. Major grammatical inaccuracies include run-on sentences, missing capitalisation, missing prepositions, and awkward phrasing such as 'how they use their whole day time in specific country'. Errors are frequent and often impede smooth readability, although the core meaning remains partially decipherable.
