Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The student attempts to cover the main features of the pie charts comparing time spent by working adults in 1958 and 2008. While an overview is provided, there are several data inaccuracies and contradictions. For instance, the student states that the time spent working 'increased noticably by 42% in the given year 2008', which confuses the actual figure of 42% with the amount of increase. Additionally, the text reverses the years for relaxing at home ('8% to 13% in 1958 and 2008 respectievely' contradicts the charts where 1958 was 8% and 2008 was 13%, but the phrasing is slightly mixed) and states that going out with friends 'fall rapidly by 6%' (it fell to 6% from 19%). These data misreadings limit the score to a Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall arrangement and attempts a logical progression, starting with an introduction and overview, followed by body details. However, paragraphing is somewhat inadequate, as the second body paragraph is a dense block of text mixing multiple contrasting trends without clear subdivision. Cohesive devices are used, but sometimes mechanically or awkwardly, such as repetitive transitions and misuse of linking structures like 'while individuals who spent time on sleeping was about 32%... and there is an increase trend'. Overall cohesion is functional, fitting the Band 6 descriptor.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common lexical items such as 'proportion', 'marginally', and 'rapidly'. However, there are noticeable inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'increase trend' instead of 'upward trend' or 'increasing trend', and confusion over numerical reporting phrases ('increased noticably by 42%' instead of 'reached 42%'). Spelling errors also occur, such as 'respectievely'. These limitations place the lexical resource firmly at a Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The student displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting relative clauses and subordinate structures ('while the individuals spent least time on travelling', 'people who spend time on going out'). However, grammatical control is inconsistent, resulting in errors that occasionally impede smooth reading, such as comma splices ('in 2008 2008,while time spent...'), tense inconsistencies ('people who spend time' instead of 'spent'), and missing prepositions or incorrect verb forms ('increased 2% to 7%' instead of 'increased from 2% to 7%'). The density of minor grammatical slips supports a Band 5.5 score.
