Student answer (Band 6.0)
The given pie charts illustrate the percentages of time spent by adults on different activities in 1958 and 2008.
In 1958, people spent most of their time working-33% and sleeping-32%. For outing with loved ones, one fifth of the time was allocated. Meanwhile, 8 percent of their total time was used in relaxing at home and travelling to job, it only took 2 percent of the time.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The student successfully addresses all parts of the prompt by reporting the main features of working adults' time allocation in 1958 and 2008 and making appropriate comparisons between the two years. Key data points such as working hours (33% rising to 42%) and sleeping hours (32% falling to 25%) are accurately cited. An overview is present, highlighting the significant changes over the fifty-year period. However, there is a minor factual misreading in the final sentence where the student claims playing sports 'has not changed a much', whereas the chart shows it was entirely absent in 1958 and accounted for 7% in 2008. Despite this slip, the core requirements of Task 1 are met satisfactorily.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response is logically organized with a clear division between the two years, using standard introductory and body paragraph structures. Cohesive devices such as 'In 1958', 'Meanwhile', 'In 2008', 'For instance', and 'In comparison to' are utilized to guide the reader through the data. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the temporal periods. While referencing is generally clear, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the logical flow could be tighter, particularly in connecting the comparative observations at the end.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The lexical range is adequate for the task, successfully incorporating terms such as 'percentages', 'allocated', 'significant changes', 'leisure activities', and 'decreased significantly'. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary and phraseology, though occasional word choice and collocation issues arise, such as 'travelling to job' instead of 'commuting' or 'travelling to work', and 'outing' used as a noun phrase in an awkward construction ('For outing with loved ones'). Spelling is generally accurate, and vocabulary errors do not impede communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating introductory prepositional phrases and relative clauses effectively. There are several instances of good grammatical control, such as 'The given pie charts illustrate...' and 'In comparison to previous century, people have notably less time...'. However, a few minor errors occur, including a missing article ('In comparison to the previous century') and punctuation/hyphenation slips ('working-33%', 'sigificantly- 6%'). Complex structures are attempted with reasonable success, and errors rarely impede overall communication.
