Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response attempts to cover the main features of the two pie charts comparing how working adults spent their time in 1958 and 2008. An overview is attempted in the conclusion, and key trends such as the rise in working hours and the decline in socialising are noted. However, there are several data inaccuracies and misinterpretations. For example, the student states that going out with friends crashed to 13 percent, whereas the visual data shows it was 6% in 2008 and 19% in 1958 (13% was relaxing at home). Furthermore, the statement that sleeping declined to 7 percent is a clear misread of the chart (sleeping was 25% in 2008, while sports was 7%). These inaccurate data points prevent the task from being fully addressed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response is organised into an introduction, body paragraph, and conclusion, providing a basic framework for the text. Cohesive devices are attempted (e.g., 'Firstly', 'Another crucial factor', 'While', 'In conclusion'), but their use is sometimes awkward or mechanically applied. Referencing and logical progression are occasionally flawed due to the confusion over data points, which makes the flow of comparisons harder to follow. Paragraphing is present, but the overall logical sequencing is disrupted by imprecise information and mechanical transitions.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with several spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text (e.g., 'individuasl', 'coutry', 'rise' instead of 'rose', 'reamains'). Less common vocabulary is attempted with limited success or inaccuracy (e.g., 'significant decline', 'crashed'). The range is minimally adequate for the task, but noticeable errors in spelling and collocation occur frequently ('visiting outside', 'two quarter of time'), which occasionally causes confusion for the reader.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control over grammar is weak. There are frequent errors in tense consistency, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions (e.g., 'people increase their time in working', 'adults spend their one third of time in working while, in 2008 it rise', 'sports , travelling to work is also declined'). These errors are noticeable and persistent, though they do not completely impede communication. Punctuation also requires better control, particularly with comma placement around conjunctions.
