Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The student attempts to address the prompt by reporting information from the pie charts for both 1958 and 2008. An overview is attempted at the beginning, but it lacks clarity and precision. Several data points are misreported or miscalculated; for instance, the student states for 1958 that 'going out with family and friends. It had exact 13 percent,' whereas the chart shows 19% for 1958 and 13% for relaxing at home in 2008. Additionally, playing sports in 1958 is completely omitted from the text, and 'travelling to work' in 1958 is stated as the lowest without citing its actual value of 2%. While key features such as working and sleeping are mentioned, the inaccuracies in data transcription and the lack of a well-developed overview limit the score to Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response is organized into multiple paragraphs, attempting to separate the introduction, overview, and body details for 1958 and 2008. However, the logical progression is weak and heavily fragmented. Sentences are short, repetitive, and often start with similar structures (e.g., 'In 1958 the higest...'). Cohesive devices are minimal, repetitive ('Likewise', 'In another side', 'In compare to'), and sometimes awkward or inaccurate. Paragraphing is also somewhat erratic, breaking natural groupings of ideas. Overall, the structural flow is mechanical and causes difficulty in reading, aligning with Band 4.5 to 5.0 descriptors.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive, heavily relying on words provided directly in the prompt such as 'working', 'sleeping', 'relaxing at home', and 'playing sports'. There are numerous spelling errors, including 'higest' instead of 'highest', 'travelling' vs 'traveling', and unnatural phrases like 'In another side' instead of 'On the other hand' or 'In contrast'. The range of vocabulary is severely limited and inadequate for expressing precise statistical trends or comparisons, reflecting Band 4.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The text displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, consisting mostly of simple sentences (e.g., 'The lowest was the travelling to work.') and frequent faulty attempts at complex or comparative forms (e.g., 'In compare to 1958. In 2008 it had totally changed.'). Punctuation errors are widespread, including missing spaces after periods, incorrect sentence boundary splitting, and missing articles. Frequent grammatical errors and clumsy phrasing cause noticeable strain for the reader, placing the response firmly at Band 4.5.
