Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response successfully covers all parts of the task by reporting the main features and making relevant comparisons between 1958 and 2008. The candidate correctly identifies that working consumed the maximum time in both years, rising from 33% (or 32% as noted in body paragraphs) to 42%, and accurately highlights trends such as the increase in travelling to work and the decrease in time spent socializing. An overview is present at the beginning of the text, although it is somewhat repetitive. While there are a few minor numerical inconsistencies regarding the 1958 working percentage, the overall data selection and comparison are well-handled, aligning with Band 6.5 to 7.0 requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the response into introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to group related ideas. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or repetitive, such as the multiple consecutive uses of 'Additionally' at the start of paragraphs. Referencing and logical progression are generally clear, but transitional phrases lack variety. Overall, the organizational structure is easy to follow, supporting a Band 6.0 descriptor.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms such as 'proportion', 'subsequently decreased', and 'depriciation'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, including 'maximun' instead of 'maximum', 'inreased' instead of 'increased', 'frim' instead of 'from', and 'depriciation' instead of 'decrease' or 'decline'. While these errors do not impede overall communication, they restrict the lexical score to a Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'While the travelling to work and going out with family were recorded as least...' and 'It was noted that sleeping also occupies...'. However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are several tense and agreement errors, such as 'The pie charts illustrates' (should be illustrate), 'the travelling to work... were recorded' (should be was), and issues with verb forms like 'has been increases'. Punctuation and minor structural flaws are present, placing this performance at Band 6.0.
