Student answer (Band 5.0)
The provided pie charts illustrate the proportion of the day spent by working adults on six various activities between a 1958 to 2008.
overall, it is clearly seen that both years the ratio of spent time on workig was increased while going out with friends / family and sleeping time were decreased throughut the years.
Looking at the pie charts in detail the percentage of adults spent on working $38\%$ in 1958 compared with $42\%$ in 2008. However, for the former year $32\%$, $19\%$ and $8\%$ on sleeping, going out with friends, fumily and relaxing at home respectively, whereas, for the letter one it was $25\%$, $6\%$ and $18\%$ for the same activities. it is noticeable that travelling to work $2\%$ and $4\%$ in 2008.
Analysing the pie chart in further in 1958 working was at the top position which accounted $38\%$. It was followed by sleeping, and going out with friends / family with only $32\%$ and 19. it is apparent that the next place was occupied by relaxing at home which contributed $8\%$, while travelling to work was at bottom position at only $2\%$. on the other hand in 2008. working was at the highest recorded $42\%$ and going out with friends / fumily was lowest position only $6\%$.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The student attempts to address all parts of the task by reporting data from both pie charts and making comparisons. However, there are significant data inaccuracies throughout the response. For instance, the student states that working was '38%' in 1958, whereas the chart shows it was 33%. Furthermore, the data points for other activities in the detailed breakdown contain contradictions and incorrect figures, such as stating relaxing at home was '$18%$' when it was actually $13%$. While an overview is attempted ('overall, it is clearly seen that both years the ratio of spent time on workig was increased...'), the inaccurate reporting of specific data points prevents the response from achieving a higher band score. The selection of main features is present, but the lack of numerical accuracy undermines the task response.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response shows some organization with paragraphing, dividing the introduction, overview, and detailed body paragraphs. However, overall progression is hindered by awkward transitions and mechanical cohesive devices, such as 'Looking at the pie charts in detail' and 'Analysing the pie chart in further'. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and punctuation errors (such as leaving unclosed LaTeX math formatting like '$38\%$' and stray periods) disrupt the logical flow. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal logical sequencing within paragraphs is weakened by fractured sentences and confusing data comparisons.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting functional phrases like 'proportion of the day', 'ratio of spent time', and 'at the top position'. However, there are numerous lexical and spelling errors, such as 'workig' instead of working, 'fumily' instead of family, and 'letter' instead of latter. Less common vocabulary is attempted with noticeable inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. While basic meaning is generally conveyed, these frequent slips restrict the lexical score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The grammar contains frequent errors that detract from the quality of the writing. There are issues with sentence structure, such as missing verbs ('the percentage of adults spent on working $38\%$ in 1958') and awkward prepositional usage ('ratio of spent time on workig was increased'). Complex sentence attempts are often faulty, and punctuation is weak, evidenced by sentence fragments and unhandled formatting tags. Although a mix of simple and some complex structures is attempted, the high frequency of grammatical inaccuracies causes some difficulty for the reader.
