Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The student covers all major parts of the prompt, selecting and reporting key features from both pie charts, such as working hours and sleeping time. However, there are some data inaccuracies and misinterpretations in the text. For example, the student states that the interest in playing sports 'has no changed', but the chart for 1958 actually shows no entry for sports (or it is not present), whereas 2008 shows 7%. Furthermore, the direction of the increase in travelling is slightly confused (from 2% to 7% is a 5 percentage point increase, but the phrasing 'increased by 5%' is used correctly, yet the overall summary has minor flaws). The overview attempts to highlight main trends, but contains some inaccuracies regarding the comparative data. Overall, the response addresses the task adequately but falls short of higher bands due to data interpretation errors.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall progression and is divided into logical paragraphs, beginning with an introduction, followed by body paragraphs detailing specific categories, and a brief conclusion. Cohesive devices are used to connect ideas, such as 'At a fleeting glance', 'Moreover', 'In addition', and 'However'. However, some cohesive referencing and paragraph links feel slightly mechanical or repetitive ('The value was... and... in...'). Paragraphing is generally appropriate, ensuring that information is grouped by category or trend, which helps guide the reader through the data successfully.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common phrases like 'fleeting glance', 'significant part', and 'significant change'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors throughout the response, such as 'activitys' instead of 'activities', 'frends' instead of 'friends', and 'has no changed' instead of 'has not changed'. These errors do not seriously impede communication, but they restrict the lexical score to Band 6, as precision and spelling control are lacking for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and comparative structures (e.g., 'The rendered pie chart illustrates the information regarding how adults liked to spend their time...'). There are several grammatical errors present, particularly with verb forms and preposition use, such as 'interest... has no changed', 'about 19% of adult liked', and missing articles in places. Nevertheless, the majority of simple sentences are error-free, and complex structures are attempted without completely obscuring the meaning, placing the response solidly in the Band 6 range.
