The pie charts illustrate the percentages of the day spent by working adults on various activities in 1958 and in 2008.
Taking a general overview, it is evident that adults gave more preference to work, while the percentage of sleeping was reduced in the second given year.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response satisfies the prompt by addressing all parts of the task, successfully reporting the main features and making relevant comparisons between the two years. An overall trend is provided in the second paragraph, highlighting the increase in working time and decrease in sleeping time. However, the development is uneven. While major categories like working and sleeping are covered well, some details are slightly underdeveloped or mechanically presented, such as the description of sports and relaxing at home in the final paragraph. Figures are generally accurate according to the visual data provided, though phrasing can sometimes be a bit repetitive. To reach higher bands, the response would need to extend and fully integrate all comparative insights rather than relying on a somewhat formulaic listing of percentages.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The text demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, an overview paragraph, and body paragraphs dedicated to specific data groups. Information is logically sequenced to guide the reader through the comparison between 1958 and 2008. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Moving towards the rest of the information' and 'whereas', but their application can occasionally feel mechanical or slightly awkward. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different categories of data, though referencing could be smoother to establish a more seamless progression between sentences and ideas.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the student to successfully communicate information about percentages, proportions, and activities. There are clear attempts to use less common vocabulary and functional reporting phrases, such as 'illustrate the percentages', 'proportion of', and 'allocated time'. However, some word choices and collocations are slightly unnatural, such as 'gave more preference to work' or 'spent the greatest time on working'. Spelling and word-form errors are minimal and do not impede communication, allowing the reader to follow the numerical data easily. To achieve a higher level, the student should incorporate a wider variety of precise reporting verbs and natural collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writing contains a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over past tenses and comparative structures. There are several error-free sentences, such as the opening statement and parts of the final paragraph. However, noticeable grammatical errors persist, including preposition usage and article omission, such as 'only 2% adults' instead of 'only 2% of adults' and 'were devoted time on playing sports' instead of 'devoted time to playing sports'. These errors rarely impede communication, but they restrict the response to a moderate band level. Expanding the range of error-free complex structures and refining prepositions in grammatical patterns would elevate the grammatical score.
