Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The response satisfies the requirements by covering all parts of the visual data, presenting a clear overview, and selecting key trends for comparison. You successfully highlight major shifts, such as the increase in working hours and the dramatic drop in time spent going out with friends. Data points are accurately cited, including percentages like 33% and 42% for working time, and changes are quantified effectively using percentage points. To move closer to a higher band, the overview could be slightly more holistic by capturing the broader structural shift across multiple categories rather than focusing primarily on the single largest activity, and minor features such as playing sports remaining identical could have been integrated more smoothly into the broader narrative.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The response demonstrates a clear logical organization and progression throughout. Information is divided into logical paragraphs, beginning with an introduction and overview, followed by specific body paragraphs analyzing contrasting trends. Cohesive devices are used flexibly, such as 'Overall', 'While', and 'Similarly', which help guide the reader through the comparisons between 1958 and 2008. Referencing is generally clear, and information is well-sequenced. To achieve a higher level of cohesion, cohesive devices could be managed with even greater subtlety, avoiding slight repetition in transitional structures like 'While' at the beginning of consecutive sentences.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.5

An adequate and sufficient range of vocabulary is used to describe data trends effectively, with appropriate reporting language such as 'witnessed an increase', 'decreased significantly', and 'occupying'. You demonstrate some flexibility by expressing changes in both percentages and percentage points. However, there are minor awkwardness issues and occasional inaccuracies in word choice or collocation, such as 'maximum amount of time on working', which prevents the vocabulary score from reaching a higher tier. Spelling and word choice errors do not impede communication, but incorporating more sophisticated or less common lexical items with native-like precision would elevate this criterion.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 7.5

You demonstrate a strong command of grammatical structures, successfully utilizing a mix of simple and complex sentence forms. There are frequent error-free sentences, such as 'Time spent on going out with friends decreased significantly from 19 % in 1958 to only 6 % in 2008', which show good control of tense and prepositions. Punctuation and sentence demarcation are handled effectively. A few minor slips persist, such as 'in both the years' instead of 'in both years', which keeps the score at this solid level. Maintaining this level of complex sentence control while eliminating minor prepositional lapses will help secure top-tier results.
