Student answer (Band 4.5)
The given pie chart shows the difference between how people of 1958 and 2008 spent their time. As shown in the pie chart, we can clearly see that people in 1958 prefer to spent most of their time with family and realxing, rather than the people in 2008 the spent there major part of the time at work and then they spent the remaing time with families or doing any hobby like sports, hangoouts. In 1958 peoples pirority was their family and work but in 2008 people like the give time to everything they are not so invested in families like 1958 people were.
In 1958, we can see people enjoy to spend their time majorly at work and after work major part of their time spent on the sleeping. But in 2008, people spent more time at the work and less time on sleeping.
People in 2008 enjoy travelling more than the people in 1958 as the people in 1958 spent less time on the travelling. On the other hand, we can clearly see people in 1958 spent more time with their friends and family but in the 2008 people don't spent much time with their friends and families. Instead they spent time on the sports while the people in 1958 never invest their time in the sports.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response addresses the task only partially. While the student attempts to compare the two pie charts showing time allocation in 1958 and 2008, the selection of data is erratic and includes several inaccuracies. For instance, the claim that people in 1958 'never invest their time in the sports' contradicts the data provided in the prompt for 2008, and the reporting of sleep and work percentages is confused. The overall overview lacks clarity and relies heavily on vague generalisations about people's priorities rather than precise data reporting. To move to a higher band, the writer must ensure all reported information is factually accurate according to the visual data and provide a clearer, more accurate summary of the main trends without introducing unsupported claims.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The organisation of information lacks clear overall progression and logical sequencing. The text is divided into paragraphs, but the ideas within them jump between different activities and years in a confusing manner, such as switching back and forth between 1958 and 2008 without a clear structure. Cohesive devices are used minimally or repetitively ('In 1958', 'But in 2008', 'On the other hand'), and referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult to follow the relationships between ideas. Paragraphing is also poorly managed, as the body paragraphs contain mixed, overlapping points. To improve, the writer needs to group related data logically—such as comparing categories year-on-year or contrasting highest and lowest values—and use a wider, more accurate range of cohesive devices to connect sentences smoothly.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and repetitive, demonstrating a basic range that is only minimally adequate for the task. There are numerous word choice and word form errors that occasionally impede communication, such as 'realxing' (relaxing), 'remaing' (remaining), 'pirority' (priority), 'hangoouts' (hangouts), and 'travelling' used repeatedly where simple movement or commuting is meant. The student attempts some less common vocabulary items like 'invest', but these are often used inaccurately in unnatural collocations. To achieve a higher score, the writer must expand their lexical range to include more precise terms for describing statistical data and proportions, while paying closer attention to correct spelling and word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response displays a very limited range of sentence structures, relying primarily on simple sentences and basic compound structures connected by coordinating conjunctions. Attempts at more complex sentences are frequently faulty, resulting in grammar errors such as tense inconsistencies ('people in 1958 prefer to spent', 'people in 2008 the spent there major part'), missing articles, and awkward prepositional usage ('spent time on the sports'). Frequent errors in basic grammar and punctuation are noticeable and can cause some difficulty for the reader. To improve, the writer should practice forming complex sentences with accurate subordinate clauses and ensure better control over verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, and basic sentence construction.
