Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response attempts to summarise the main features of the pie charts comparing 1958 and 2008, noting trends such as changes in working, sleeping, and going out. However, there are significant flaws in data reporting, including contradictions and inaccuracies (for instance, the student claims going out with friends and family was higher in 1958, which is correct at 19%, but later makes contradictory or confused statements about trends). Furthermore, the word count is 148 words, falling just short of the 150-word minimum requirement. This incurs a minor penalty for task length, placing the overall task achievement at Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The text suffers from poor organisation and inappropriate paragraphing. It consists of very brief, fragmented paragraphs that lack logical progression. Cohesive devices are either missing or misused, with repetitive use of phrases like 'furthermore' and 'moreover' attempting to link poorly structured sentences. Reference words are frequently unclear, making the flow disjointed and difficult for the reader to follow. Overall, the essay fails to maintain a clear logical organisation throughout.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The lexical range is very limited and repetitive. The student relies heavily on basic vocabulary and makes numerous spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'pia chart' instead of 'pie chart', 'peopel' instead of 'people', 'travaling' instead of 'travelling', 'precentage' instead of 'percentage', and 'rised' instead of 'rose'. These errors reflect a lack of control over word formation and spelling, occasionally straining the reader's understanding.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0

The grammatical range is extremely limited, relying primarily on simple or poorly constructed complex structures that frequently contain severe errors. There are frequent issues with subject-verb agreement, missing articles, and incorrect prepositions (e.g., 'time consumed in 1958 and its showing that going out with the friends and family it was high'). Punctuation is also problematic, with missing spaces after commas and periods. These frequent errors cause significant difficulty for the reader.
