Student answer (Band 5.0)

The given pie charts illustrate the time spent by adult across different tasks between 1958 and 2008 in all over the world.

Overall, it can be seen that the working consider the most significant portion of time spend by adult in both years, while travelling to work was the factor in which least individual contibuted their time in 1958. In contrast young generation spend their least time is going out with friends and family in 2008.

To begin with, in 1958, working accounted for the highest proportion at approximately 33%, followed by sleeping at 25% of time spend by the young generation. Meanwhile, travelling to work represented only 2%, which was significantly lower. other categories such as playing sports, going out withfriends and familes and relaxing at home, shared relatively similar percentage.

Moving further with, in 2008, there were some remarkable changes

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You identify the broad topic and attempt an overview, but the response reports several key details inaccurately or incompletely. For example, sleeping in 1958 was 32%, not 25%; 25% is the 2008 figure. The claim that travelling to work was the smallest category in 1958 is correct, but the 2008 smallest category was going out with friends and family, not a category for the “young generation.” You also mention playing sports in the 1958 discussion, although it appears only in 2008, and do not report the 2008 figures after introducing that year. The response is 142 words, below the required 150. Include a clear overview and accurate comparisons for both years, then complete the summary with the main 2008 changes.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs beginning with “To begin with” and “Moving further with.” This gives the reader some sense of organisation. However, the progression is incomplete because the final paragraph stops after “there were some remarkable changes,” without explaining them. Some linking is also awkward or unclear: “Meanwhile” introduces a contrast, while “other categories” does not clearly connect to the figures that follow. Develop each year’s paragraph fully and use straightforward links such as “By contrast” or “In 2008” to show comparisons. A complete final paragraph and clearer connections between the overview and supporting details would make the organisation easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “accounted for,” “proportion,” and “represented,” and these help describe chart data. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which makes parts of the response difficult to interpret. “The working consider the most significant portion” is not a natural way to describe the largest share, and “least individual contibuted their time” does not express the intended comparison clearly. There are also spelling and spacing errors, such as “contibuted,” “withfriends,” and “familes.” Use precise terms for proportions and categories, and check spelling and word forms. For example, describe adults’ time as being “spent on” activities rather than saying individuals “contributed” time.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a few complex sentence forms, including the overview clause beginning “while travelling to work…” and the sentence starting “which was significantly lower.” However, the range is limited, and frequent errors affect clarity. Examples include “time spent by adult,” “the working consider,” and “the least time is going out,” where articles, agreement, or sentence structure are not controlled. The phrase “sleeping at 25% of time spend” also contains an incorrect verb form and an incomplete grammatical pattern. The final sentence fragment, “Moving further with, in 2008, there were some remarkable changes,” leaves the idea unfinished. Practise accurate simple comparisons first, then add subordinate clauses while checking subject–verb agreement, articles, and complete sentence structure.
