Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the two leading categories in both years and report several correct changes: working rises from 33% to 42%, sleeping falls from 32% to 25%, and relaxing at home increases from 8% to 13%. However, the summary is partial: it omits travelling to work and playing sports, and gives no figures for the decline in going out with friends or family from 19% to 6%. The conclusion that people had “more activities” in 2008 is unclear and not supported by the chart. The response is also 13 words below the 150-word minimum; the 13 words copied from the task prompt were not counted. Include the main categories and a clearer overview of the overall shifts.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an introduction to an overview, supporting details and a conclusion. Some linking expressions, such as “Overall,” “On the other hand” and “In conclusion,” help signal these stages. However, progression within the paragraphs is limited: the overview repeats the leading figures before explaining the changes, and the final sentence largely restates the introduction rather than synthesising the comparisons. References such as “it” in “it was decreased” are not always precise, while “There were another categories” does not clearly connect the next point to the chart. Group the major increases and decreases more logically and use clear references to each activity.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “maximum value,” “increased,” “decreased” and “categories,” so the reader can understand the general comparisons. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, such as “pie chat,” “working people,” “out going avtivities” and “people relaxing at home.” Spelling errors including “adulds,” “woking,” “explane” and “Additionaly” also reduce accuracy. Repeated use of “maximum value” is not a natural way to describe the largest shares. Build a more precise set of terms for proportions and changes, and check spelling carefully; for example, use “accounted for” or “share” when reporting percentages.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt both simple statements and longer comparisons, and the main message is generally recoverable. However, the range of sentence structures is limited, and errors occur frequently in basic sentence formation and agreement. For example, “The pie chart about the adults maximum value was working people 33%” lacks a clear grammatical structure, while “working people was increased” uses an incorrect verb pattern. In “people relaxing at home the year 1958 was 8%,” the subject and time phrase are not formed correctly. Articles, plurals and tense patterns also need more consistent control. Practise clear comparative frames such as “The proportion of time spent working rose from … to …” and check that each sentence has a clear subject and correctly formed verb.
