Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main overall pattern: work and sleep account for the largest shares in both years, with work rising and sleep falling. Most figures you report are accurate, including the changes in working, sleeping, relaxing at home, and going out with family or friends. You also mention the increase in commuting. However, the overview is unclear when it says several smaller activities were “significant” but “too miner,” and it does not clearly highlight the sharp fall in socialising or the appearance of sports in 2008. The comparison of travel and sports is also inaccurate: travel was 2% in 1958 and 7% in 2008, while sports is shown only for 2008 at 7%. A clearer overview and more precise treatment of these details would strengthen the response.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, moving from an introduction and overview to comparisons of the larger and smaller categories. This helps the reader follow the main information. However, progression is weakened by repeated and sometimes awkward linking words, especially “however” and “moreover,” and by unclear connections such as “so it also take place.” The overview combines several activities without clearly grouping or ranking them, while the final paragraph joins multiple comparisons in one long sentence. Use separate, focused paragraphs and connect ideas by their relationship—for example, grouping increases together and then contrasting them with decreases. Clearer referencing and less repetitive transitions would make the organisation more coherent.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “increased,” “decreased dramatically,” “account,” and “time consuming,” and the reader can generally understand which activities you mean. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural for describing charts. “Most of the people was spending their time in a work” does not express the proportion of time clearly, while “playing games” does not match the chart’s category of playing sports. There are also noticeable spelling errors, such as “demostrate,” “famiy,” “miner,” and “noticable.” Aim for precise chart language and check spelling; terms such as “proportion,” “share,” and “accounted for” would help you describe the data more naturally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, and the main comparisons are usually understandable. However, control is inconsistent, particularly in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “most of the people was spending” has incorrect agreement, and “sleeping was decreased” uses an unsuitable passive form; “sleeping decreased” is the appropriate structure. The opening phrase “demostrate that how” also has an unnecessary conjunction, and “in 1958 in addition 7% and 7% in 2008” lacks a clear grammatical connection between the figures. Punctuation after sentence openings is inconsistent as well. Practise accurate comparative sentences and use a wider range of structures while checking each clause for a clear subject and verb.
