Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You identify the main pattern that working took the largest share in both years and that sleeping declined, and you support these points with accurate figures. The comparisons for relaxing, commuting and socialising also cover the key changes, so the response addresses the task well. However, the overview is brief and its wording is unclear (“while the sleeping”), and it does not summarise the full range of changes. Most importantly, the final claim that sports occupied 7% in both years is not supported: the chart shows sports only in 2008, at 7%. To strengthen the response further, give a clearer overview of the major increases and decreases and avoid treating an unreported 1958 figure as equal.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response follows a generally sensible order: it begins with an overview, compares work and sleep, then reports the remaining activities. This makes the information easy to follow overall. Basic linking expressions such as “whereas,” “compared to,” and “Finally” help signal comparisons. However, the paragraphing is not clearly developed, and some transitions feel mechanical or imprecise, particularly “Further more people 1958” and “another noteable feature.” The overview sentence also joins ideas in a way that makes their relationship unclear. Grouping the main increases together and the decreases together, with a distinct overview paragraph, would create smoother progression and clearer links between comparisons.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant vocabulary for describing the charts, including “majority share,” “compared to,” and “in contrast,” and the reader can generally understand the comparisons. However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision: “informations,” “propotions,” “Overal,” “tome,” “pecent,” and “persent.” Some phrases are also unnatural, such as “majority share in tome of adults” and “spend almost quarter.” Use standard chart language consistently and check spelling carefully. More precise terms such as “proportion,” “accounted for,” and “declined” would help you describe the data more naturally without making the writing unnecessarily complex.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more developed sentence forms, and most of the comparisons remain understandable. There are, however, recurring errors in agreement, articles, tense and sentence construction. For example, “The charts gives” should use a plural verb, while “adults spend majority their time” needs an article and a clearer grammatical pattern. “Further more people 1958 used to sleep” is missing a preposition and has an awkward tense choice; “In both years adults spent same amount” also needs an article. The overview sentence is difficult to parse because of its structure. Practise accurate comparison patterns such as “the figure rose from…to…” and “adults spent a larger proportion…” while varying sentence forms.
