Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify several relevant figures, including working at 33% in 1958 and 42% in 2008, and note the fall in sleeping and socialising. However, the overview is unclear and does not accurately summarise the main changes: working rose, while going out with friends and family fell sharply; travelling and relaxing at home both increased. The statement that working time had a “large percentages in 1958” is also misleading because it was higher in 2008. Some details are missing, notably the 19% figure for socialising in 1958 and the 7% for sports in 2008, while “1950” appears to be an incorrect year. A clearer overview and more accurate comparisons would make the response more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic paragraph structure, with an introduction, an overview and separate discussion of the two years. This gives the reader some organisation, and the figures are generally grouped by year. However, progression is limited: the overview is difficult to follow, and the body paragraphs mostly list activities rather than compare the years systematically. Linking phrases such as “then” and “rather then” do not clearly express the relationships between the data, and “The Playing sports and Travelling to worl this two activities” makes the connection unclear. Organise the body around the main changes—for example, increases in work, travel and home relaxation versus decreases in sleep and socialising—and use clear comparison language.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use relevant basic terms such as “working,” “sleeping,” “travelling to work” and “decreased,” so the topic is usually recognisable. However, vocabulary is repetitive, and several word-choice, spelling and word-form errors make the report less clear: “cointry,” “activitie,” “decrise,” “rayther” and “worl.” Phrases such as “a large percentages” and “the midle percentages” are not natural ways to describe chart proportions. Use precise reporting language and check spelling and forms. For example, describe a figure as “accounted for 33%” and a change as “rose from 33% to 42%,” rather than relying on repeated uses of “had” and “percentages.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
Most sentences are short and follow a simple subject–verb pattern, with limited control of more complex structures. Frequent errors in verb forms, agreement, articles and sentence construction sometimes make the meaning difficult to follow. Examples include “the working time have,” “The Sleeping activities was,” and “The working activities was almost twice 1958.” The opening also lacks a clear grammatical structure: “The pie charts illustrat working day spent adults…” Several sentences join ideas without adequate punctuation, as in “The Playing sports and Travelling to worl this two activities are same.” Practise accurate comparison structures such as “Working accounted for 33% in 1958, compared with 42% in 2008,” and check subject–verb agreement and sentence boundaries.
