Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify several relevant figures, including working at 33% in 1958 and 42% in 2008, and the fall in sleeping from 32% to 25%. However, the overview is too vague to summarise the main pattern: “Some inspect increase while other descrease” does not clearly identify which activities rose or fell, and the claim that some remained stable is unsupported. The response also omits the important 7% figure for sports from the comparison with 1958, when this category is not shown. Some details are unclear or inaccurate in presentation, such as referring to “young people” when the charts concern working adults. The response is 140 words, below the 150-word minimum; develop the overview and comparisons to cover the task more fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic paragraph structure, with an introduction, an attempted overview, and separate paragraphs for the two years. This gives the reader some sense of how the information is organised. However, progression within the paragraphs is limited: figures are mostly listed one after another rather than grouped into meaningful comparisons, and the overview does not guide the reader through the main changes. Linking words such as “However” and “Additionally” are used, but sometimes do not express a clear contrast or addition, and punctuation around them is inconsistent. To improve, organise the body around increases and decreases across the two years, and use clear comparisons such as “while” or “by contrast” to connect related figures.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “percentage,” “working,” “sleeping,” and “traveling to work,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms make the meaning unclear. “Some inspect increase” appears to be an attempt to describe increases, while “this trend highest increase” does not express the comparison naturally. There are also spelling errors such as “descrease” and “anf,” and inconsistent forms such as “traveling/travelling.” Use precise verbs for chart trends and standard collocations, for example, “the proportion spent working rose” and “the figure for sleeping fell.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts a few longer sentence patterns, including “Overall, it clear that…” and sentences beginning with “However” and “Additionally,” but most structures remain simple and errors are frequent. Examples include subject–verb agreement in “the given pie charts shows,” the missing verb in “Overall, it clear,” and the incorrect construction “adults are spent time.” Articles and sentence boundaries are also unreliable, as in “adults some spend time” and “2 %.However.” These errors sometimes make relationships between the figures difficult to follow. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and basic sentence patterns first, such as “Adults spent 33% of the day working in 1958,” then combine comparisons using “while” or “whereas.”
