Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the broad pattern that work took the largest share and report several relevant changes, including work rising from 33% to 42%, travel increasing from 2% to 7%, and time with friends and family falling sharply. However, the overview is not fully accurate: travel was not among the smallest activities in both years, since it was 7% in 2008, equal to sports and above going out. Some details are unclear or incorrect: relaxing at home rose from 8% to 13%, so it did change noticeably, and sports cannot be described as constant because it appears only in the 2008 chart. The sleep comparison is also imprecise. Select the main changes accurately and state both years’ figures to support them.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs presenting details. Sequencing phrases such as “To begin with” and “With regards to remaining information” help signal movement between points, and the reader can generally follow the comparisons. However, the overview groups activities in a way that is not consistently supported by the data, and some references are unclear, particularly “in last year” and “as became one-third of it.” The final paragraph also moves between travel, sleep, and sports without a clear grouping or fully developed comparison. Organise the details around increases and decreases, and use explicit references to 1958 and 2008 so the progression is clearer and less dependent on formulaic transitions.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a reasonable range of task-related vocabulary, including “allocated,” “proportion,” “observed,” and “travelling to work,” and the intended comparisons are usually understandable. There are, however, several inaccurate or unnatural choices that reduce precision: “was inclined” does not naturally describe a percentage increase, “no significant change” misrepresents the rise in relaxing at home, and “remain constant” is unsuitable for sports. Spelling slips such as “decrese,” “per sent,” and “lasy” also affect the overall impression. Aim for accurate, conventional chart language rather than less familiar wording used imprecisely; for example, describe a figure as “rose,” “fell,” or “accounted for” a share, and check spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “whereas,” “as,” and “that,” and most of the message remains understandable. Some grammatical errors nevertheless recur. The opening needs plural agreement and an article (“The given pair of pie charts depicts…”), while “is was inclined” contains an incorrect verb form. In “33% of day was allocated,” the article is missing, and “no significant change was examine” has an incorrect passive form. The sentence about sleeping and relaxing is also structurally unclear, and punctuation is missing before “Furthermore.” These errors do not usually prevent the reader from understanding the main comparisons, but careful checking of agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence boundaries would make the range more controlled.
