Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You cover both years and report the main figures accurately, including the rise in working from 33% to 42%, the fall in sleeping from 32% to 25%, and the sharp decline in socialising from 19% to 6%. The overview also identifies working as the largest category and travelling as the smallest in 1958. This gives the response a clear account of the charts. However, the overview is less complete for 2008: it does not clearly identify going out as the smallest category or mention the new sports category, and it repeats rankings rather than summarising the most important changes across the period. To strengthen the response, compare the major increases and decreases directly in the overview and make the key 2008 features explicit.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear four-part structure: an introduction, an overview, and a paragraph for each year. The chronological organisation makes the figures easy to follow, and phrases such as “Starting with” and “Turning to” signal the shift between chart years. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical because “Meanwhile,” “Whereas,” and “In contrast” recur frequently, including where no real contrast is being made. Some sentence fragments also interrupt the flow, such as “While sleeping stood at second place…” and “Whereas, the figure for going out…”. Use fewer, more precise linking expressions and connect related comparisons within complete sentences. This would make the progression smoother and the relationships between figures clearer.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.5

You use a suitable range of chart-reporting vocabulary, including “proportions,” “accounted for,” “represented,” and “smallest share.” These choices help communicate the data clearly, and the reader can understand all the comparisons. There is also some variation in how you describe percentages. At times, however, the wording is repetitive or not fully natural: “stood at third place,” “working shared the highest proportion,” and “represented the percentage of 7% each” are awkward collocations. “Utilized” is also less natural than “spent” when describing time. Aim for concise, conventional expressions such as “ranked third,” “accounted for,” and “each made up 7%,” while avoiding repeated use of “proportion” and “represented.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5

You attempt a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, and most of the figures remain understandable. The past-tense reporting is generally appropriate. Some sentence-boundary and punctuation problems remain, however. “While sleeping stood at second place…” and “Whereas, the figure…” are dependent clauses presented as separate sentences, while “Overall, In the year 1958” has unnecessary capitalisation after the comma. The opening overview also uses a comma splice between “followed by sleeping” and “Whereas…”. Improve control by joining dependent clauses to a main clause or rewriting them as complete sentences, and check punctuation and capitalisation. These corrections would make the varied structures more consistently accurate.
