Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the two years and report several relevant figures, including working (33% to 42%), sleeping (32% to 25%), and socialising (19% to 6%). However, the overview is unclear and includes an unsupported claim that sports remained stable: playing sports appears only in 2008, at 7%. There are also important inaccuracies in the year labels, with “1985,” “2000,” and “2208” used instead of 1958 and 2008, which makes comparisons difficult to follow. The response covers some main changes, but does not clearly summarise the overall pattern or accurately present all comparisons. Use the correct years and give a concise overview of the largest increases and decreases.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The response has an introduction, an attempted overview, and body paragraphs, and it uses linking expressions such as “However,” “Moreover,” and “On the other hand.” These provide some structure, but the progression is difficult to follow because comparisons are grouped inconsistently and the years are repeatedly mislabelled. The overview begins “Overall. it can be seen” but does not clearly state the main pattern, while the body shifts between activities without a consistent organising principle. Some connectors, including “As a result,” do not show a clear cause-and-effect relationship. Organise the details by comparable trends—for example, increases in work, travel and home relaxation, followed by decreases in sleep and socialising—and use simpler, more precise transitions.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You attempt a range of vocabulary for describing change, including “decline,” “climb,” “diminished,” “hiking,” and “dramatically drop.” However, many choices are inaccurate or unnatural in this context, and several phrases make the meaning hard to understand, such as “furthere in the past the working on various activities rising” and “the one thing that remain constant.” Spelling and word-form errors, including “Relaxin” and “initialy,” also reduce clarity. Use a smaller set of accurate chart-description terms and collocations, such as “increased,” “fell,” “accounted for,” and “the proportion of time spent on.” This would make comparisons more precise and easier to read.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, using contrast clauses such as “However” and “Whereas.” Nevertheless, errors are frequent and often make relationships between ideas unclear. Examples include “the Working placement activity were decline,” “the sleeping were less ratio,” and “in 2008 it was rise slightly,” where verb forms and subject–verb agreement are faulty. Sentence boundaries and punctuation are also inconsistent, as in “Overall. it can be seen,” and capitalisation after commas is often incorrect. Practise forming clear comparison sentences with accurate past-tense verbs—for example, “The proportion spent working rose from 33% in 1958 to 42% in 2008”—before attempting longer structures.
