Student answer (Band 5.5)

The given pie chats illustrates the information about comparision of two year's working adults who spent their times in various activities in the year 1958 and 2008.

To initiate with, in the year 1958, the most of time were spent working followed by sleeping which were approximately 33% and 32% respectively. Moreover, around 20% adults used to spend their time in going out with friends and family. While, people were less interested in trawelling to work and relaxing at home where ratio was 2% and 8% consecutively.

On the contrary, in the year 2008, working adults started spending almost 9% more time in working which was around 42% as compared with 1958. Besides this, there was a significant descrease in the activity of going outside with family and friend which dropped by around 13% in 2008. in sleeping there was a slight decrease in percentage which was exactly in in quarter.

Overall, it can be finally inferred that people were very workaholic in the both given years, whereas playing sports activity had been remained same.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify several important features, including working as the largest category in both years, the fall in sleeping, and the sharp decline in socialising. The figures for working and sleeping are broadly accurate, and you compare the two years. However, the account is only partial: the 2008 figures for travelling to work and relaxing at home are omitted, and playing sports is not reported as a new category in 2008. The statement that sports “had been remained same” is also unsupported; it appears only in the 2008 chart. The overview that people were “workaholic” is too general to summarise the main changes. Include the missing categories and give a clearer overview of the largest increases and decreases.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure, with an opening, separate descriptions of the two years, and a concluding overview. This gives the reader a coherent overall arrangement. Some linking is effective, such as “Moreover” and “On the contrary,” but transitions can feel mechanical or inaccurate: “On the contrary” does not express a direct contrast between the two chart descriptions, and “To initiate with” is an awkward way to begin the first detail paragraph. The final overview also introduces a claim about sports that has not been developed earlier. Improve progression by grouping comparable changes across both years and using clear references, rather than relying on formulaic connectors.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some relevant vocabulary for describing charts, including “approximately,” “significant decrease,” “dropped,” and “percentage.” This shows an attempt to vary your wording, but control is uneven and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural, sometimes making the intended meaning less clear. Examples include “pie chats,” “comparision,” “trawelling,” and “workaholic”; “spending time in working” and “going outside with family and friend” are also awkward collocations. Use precise chart language such as “share,” “proportion,” “rose,” and “fell,” and check spelling and word forms carefully. More accurate, natural phrasing would make the comparisons easier to follow.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including comparisons with “as compared with 1958” and a contrast introduced by “whereas.” However, errors in sentence structure, agreement, articles, and verb forms are frequent enough to affect clarity. For example, “the most of time were spent” has faulty article use and agreement, while “people were very workaholic” lacks a suitable grammatical construction. The sentence beginning “in sleeping” is incomplete in its punctuation and structure, and “had been remained” uses an incorrect verb form. Aim for controlled, complete sentences, such as “The proportion of the day spent sleeping fell to 25% in 2008,” and check capitalization and punctuation at sentence boundaries.
