Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the two years and report several relevant figures, including working rising from 33% to 42% and sleeping falling from 32% to 25%. However, the response only partially covers the chart: the account of going out with friends and family is cut off, and relaxing at home is not reported. The overview also inaccurately groups activities as “outdoor activities” and says these took the least time, although relaxing at home was also a smaller category and sports appears only in 2008. The comparison of travel and sport is unclear and misstates the 1958 figures. The response is 134 words, below the required 150, and its unfinished ending leaves key information undeveloped. Include the main categories and complete the comparisons.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is a basic attempt at organisation: an opening sentence is followed by an overview and then details about working and sleeping. This gives the reader some sense of the response’s purpose. However, progression is weak because the final paragraph begins “Where as” without a clear connection to the preceding information, and the sentence about friends and family ends abruptly at “this figut”. The comparison of sports and travel is also difficult to follow because the years and figures are not clearly matched. Use separate, complete paragraphs for the overview and grouped details, and connect comparisons explicitly with phrases such as “by contrast” or “in 2008”.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “accounted for”, “allocated”, “recorded” and “share”, and the activity labels generally make the topic clear. However, the range is limited and several choices or forms are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the meaning harder to follow. For example, “outdoor activities” is not a precise description of the categories, while “employees spent 19% of their time with friends and family” is less suitable than describing time spent going out with them. There are also noticeable spelling errors such as “illustartes”, “employeed”, “thier” and “figut”. Check spelling carefully and use precise chart language consistently.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts both simple statements and more developed comparisons, such as “this figure increased to 42% by 2008”, and the main trend is usually understandable. However, the range of sentence structures is limited, and several sentences are incomplete or incorrectly formed. “Day spent by working adults on various activities, in 1958, they spent…” is a fragment followed by a separate clause, while “Sleeping is the second highest activity performed by adults recorded 32%” lacks a clear grammatical link between the activity and its figures. The final sentence is also incomplete. Review sentence boundaries, use a clear subject and verb in each sentence, and practise structures such as “The proportion spending time on X was…, compared with…”.
