Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You identify the main overall shift accurately: working takes the largest share in both years and rises from 33% to 42%, while sleeping and socialising decline. You also include several relevant figures, including relaxing at home and travel. This covers the task well, but some details are unclear or inaccurate: the overview groups activities as “outdoor” without clearly comparing the main changes, and the sentence about sports and travelling gives 6% for sports in 1958, although sports is not shown for that year; travel is 2%. The 2008 figures for both sports and travel are 7%. A more complete overview would also highlight the new sports category and the sharp fall in time spent with friends and family. These points would make the selection and comparison more precise.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, an overview and two paragraphs of details. The information generally moves from the broad pattern to individual activities, and linking words such as “whereas,” “however” and “by 2008” help show comparisons. However, the overview’s reference to “outdoor activities” is not a clear organising category for the chart, and the final paragraph combines sports, travel and relaxing without a particularly clear progression. Some phrasing also makes relationships difficult to follow, especially “Amount of time allocated to playing sports and travelling recorded the lowest figures.” Use clearer topic sentences and group the figures by increases and decreases, while ensuring each comparison has an explicit subject.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of task-related vocabulary, including “allocated,” “declined,” “accounted for” and “rose,” which helps describe proportions and changes. There are also some imprecise or unnatural choices: “outdoor activities” does not accurately describe all the activities grouped there, and “the second highest activity performed” is awkward for describing time use. Spelling errors such as “illustartes,” “employeed” and “thier,” along with “quater,” reduce accuracy. Aim for precise chart language and check spelling carefully. For example, “share of the day” and “time spent socialising” would be more natural and specific than some of the current phrases.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and more complex structures, including comparisons with “whereas” and “however,” and most of the intended meaning remains understandable. Some grammatical errors nevertheless affect clarity. The opening sentence has subject–verb agreement problems (“The pie charts illustartes”), while “Day spent by working adults on various activities, in 1958, they spent…” is a sentence fragment followed by a separate clause. Articles and sentence construction are also awkward in “allocated least amount of time” and “Sleeping is the second highest activity performed by adults recorded 32%.” Build complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and use punctuation to separate clauses. More consistent control of these patterns would improve accuracy.
