Student answer (Band 6.0)
The pai charts compares the distribution of daily time among various activities for employed adult in a particular country in 1958 and 2008.
Overall, working and sleeping took up the largest proportion of the day in both years. However, the percentage of working increased in 2008, while time devoted to sleeping and going out with friends and family decreased. There is also a noticeable rise inn the time spent for traveling to work and relaxing at home.
In 1958, working was the most time-consuming activity, accounted for 33% of the day, closely followed by sleeping. Going out with family and friends represented for 19% proportion. by comparison, adults spent only 8% of their time relaxing at home, while traveling to work accounted for 2% which is smallest proportion of the day.
In 2008, the proportion for working time substantially risen at 42%, making it more dominant . The figure for sleeping had declined to 25%. Similarly, the time for socializing dropped sharply from 19% to 6%, whereas relaxing at home increased from 8% to 13%. Playing sports accounted for 7% of the day in 2008.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main pattern accurately: work takes the largest share in 2008, while sleeping and socialising decline, and relaxing at home and commuting rise. The key figures you give—33% for work in 1958, 42% in 2008, and the fall in socialising from 19% to 6%—match the charts. You also include the new sports category in 2008. However, the comparison is not fully developed: the 2008 commuting figure of 7% is omitted, and the overview could more clearly note that sports appears only in the later year. The final fragment, “In 20”, also leaves the response unfinished. More complete coverage of the categories and a concise, fully rounded overview would strengthen the report.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for the two years. This makes the information easy to follow, and linking expressions such as “Overall”, “However”, “Similarly” and “whereas” help signal comparisons. The progression is generally logical, moving from the broad trends to specific figures. To make cohesion more controlled, connect the two years more directly within the detail paragraphs rather than presenting them mostly as separate lists. The ending, “In 20”, is an incomplete fragment and disrupts the otherwise clear organisation. A complete final sentence or a clean conclusion would give the report a more finished progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
You use a suitable range of task vocabulary, including “distribution”, “proportion”, “time-consuming”, “declined” and “socializing”, and the meaning is generally clear. There is some flexibility in how you describe changes, for example “increased”, “dropped sharply” and “accounted for”. A few word-choice and collocation problems reduce precision: “represented for 19% proportion” is awkward, and “the proportion for working time” is less natural than a direct description of the share spent working. There are also spelling slips in “pai” and “inn”. Aim for accurate, natural collocations and check spelling carefully; this would make the vocabulary more precise and consistent.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and more complex sentences, including contrast clauses with “while” and “whereas”, and most of the information remains understandable. However, some grammatical errors are noticeable. For example, “working was … activity, accounted for 33%” needs a participle or a separate clause, while “the proportion … substantially risen” is missing the auxiliary “has” and uses an incorrect verb form. There are also article and sentence-boundary issues, such as “which is smallest proportion” and the lowercase “by comparison” after a full stop. The unfinished “In 20” further affects accuracy. Review verb forms, articles and punctuation, while retaining your attempts at varied sentence structures.
