Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify several relevant comparisons, including the rise in working time from 33% to 42%, the fall in sleeping from 32% to 25%, and the decline in socialising from 19% to 6%. However, key details are misreported: relaxing at home was 8% in 1958, not 33%, and sleeping in 2008 was 25%, not 8%. The overview also incorrectly says sports remained constant; sports appears only in the 2008 chart, at 7%. The claim that sports and socialising were the lowest activities across both years is unclear and inaccurate. These substantial inaccuracies and the limited selection of correctly reported features mean the charts are only partially summarised. Check each figure against the chart and give a concise, accurate overview of the main changes.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs describing figures. This gives the reader some organisation, and transitions such as “However,” “Furthermore,” and “In contrast” signal relationships between points. Nevertheless, progression is not consistently clear because the overview contains confusing claims and the body moves between activities without a fully controlled comparison. “In 1998” is repeated, although the chart compares 1958 and 2008, and the sports statement is difficult to follow. Some linking words are also used mechanically or where the relationship is not appropriate. Group the figures by clear trends—such as increases and decreases—and use accurate year references and simpler links to make the comparisons easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant task vocabulary such as “percentage,” “increased,” “decreased,” and “portion,” and the reader can generally identify the activities being discussed. However, the range is limited and several choices or forms are inaccurate, including “eorking,” “steadly,” “a friends/family,” and “engage their time in sport activity.” Phrases such as “the lowest activity” and “time change but same amount of people” are also imprecise or unnatural, which sometimes makes the intended comparison harder to understand. Aim for accurate, conventional chart language and avoid repeating “spend” in nearly every sentence. For example, use “accounted for” or “represented” for proportions, and describe a figure as “the smallest share” rather than calling an activity the lowest.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast with “although” and clauses introduced by “while.” However, errors are frequent and sometimes make relationships or meanings unclear. Examples include “in 1998 people spend,” where the year is wrong and the verb form is not controlled, and “it fell to 8% in 2008,” which gives an incorrect comparison. Sentence boundaries and punctuation are also inconsistent: several sentences begin with lowercase “in,” and commas are placed awkwardly, as in “The pie chart illustrates, how…”. Agreement and article patterns need attention in phrases such as “the most popular activity” when listing several activities and “a friends/family.” Practise accurate past-tense reporting, sentence punctuation, and agreement, then proofread each comparison against the chart.
