Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You identify the main pattern accurately: working takes the largest share in both years and rises from 33% to 42%, while sleeping falls from 32% to 25%. You also report several relevant figures, including commuting, relaxing at home and socialising, and your overview gives the reader a useful summary. This covers the task well, though some features are less fully developed: the 2008 figure for sports (7%) is omitted, and the comparison of socialising is not made explicit (19% to 6%). The statement that commuting is the smallest category in both years is inaccurate, since in 2008 going out is lower at 6%, while commuting and sports are both 7%. More precise selection and comparison of all key changes would strengthen the response further.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable structure, moving from an introduction and overview to details about 1958 and then 2008. This helps the reader follow the broad comparison. However, progression is not consistently clear: the overview repeats points that are then restated in the detail paragraphs, and several ideas are crowded into long sentences, especially the final paragraph. Linking is also limited and sometimes mechanical, with repeated use of “while” and “as compared to.” Paragraphing could more clearly separate the overview from the two years’ details, and comparisons between years could be grouped together rather than reported in a sequence of separate observations. These changes would make the organisation more purposeful and reduce repetition.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “percentage,” “increased,” “decreased,” “commuting” and “time spent,” so the main information is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are unnatural, such as “times expenditure,” “most time spending portion” and “least proportion of time.” Spelling errors are also noticeable, including “wroking,” “slleping,” “decresed” and “incresed,” which detract from clarity and control. Aim for accurate, natural phrases such as “share of the day,” “accounted for” and “the smallest proportion.” Proofreading spelling and avoiding repeated use of “time spent” would help make the vocabulary more precise and fluent.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including comparisons joined with “while” and clauses such as “despite showing decrease.” The reader can usually understand the intended trends, but sentence control is inconsistent. The opening lacks an article and verb agreement (“Pie charts compares”), and the overview has an incomplete or unclear construction (“working time remained the most proportion”). In longer sentences, punctuation and clause boundaries are often weak; for example, the final paragraph joins several comparisons with commas, making the relationships harder to follow. There are also errors with articles and sentence structure, as in “showing decrease.” Use shorter, complete sentences where needed, check subject–verb agreement, and punctuate comparisons carefully while continuing to practise varied sentence forms.
