Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify several important features, including the rise in working time from 33% to 42%, the fall in sleeping from 32% to 25%, and the appearance of sports in 2008. However, the overview is unclear and includes an inaccurate claim: working was not the largest category in both years, since sleeping was marginally higher in 1958. Some comparisons are also incomplete. For example, you say travelling and playing sports were similar in 2008, but omit that both were 7%, and you do not give the 1958 figures for travelling or relaxing. The description of going out with friends and family is repeatedly called “pickning,” making this key category difficult to identify. A clearer overview and accurate, selective comparisons would make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for the two years. This gives the reader a basic route through the information, and phrases such as “In contrast” help signal a comparison. However, progression is sometimes weakened by unclear references and mechanical linking. For instance, “over both years” does not clearly connect to the figures that follow, while “whereas” introduces a comparison without specifying the missing percentages. The final paragraph also shifts between categories without a consistent order. Grouping the largest changes first, then the smaller categories, and using precise references to each activity would make the organisation and cohesion more effective.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You attempt a range of vocabulary for describing proportions, including “accounted for,” “contributed,” “share,” and “constituted.” However, several choices are inaccurate or unnatural, which sometimes makes the data hard to follow. “Pickning activity” appears to mean going out with friends or family, but it is not a recognisable expression; “playing games” also changes the chart’s label, which is “playing sports.” Phrases such as “time utilized in working” and “made up the least share” are awkward collocations. Spelling errors, including “avtivity” and “exits,” further reduce clarity. Prefer accurate chart labels and straightforward expressions such as “the proportion spent working” or “accounted for 13%.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple statements and some longer structures, such as the sentence beginning “In contrast,” and the clause introduced by “whereas.” However, grammatical control is uneven, particularly in verb forms and sentence construction. For example, “youth spend their most of time in working” has problems with the subject and verb pattern, while “time spend in sleeping accounted for” needs a passive form such as “time spent sleeping.” The opening sentence also incorrectly makes “working adults” the subject of “spent.” Punctuation is inconsistent: there is no space after full stops in “respectively. In” and “25%.Moreover,” and the first sentence of the overview is difficult to parse. Check sentence boundaries and use complete, accurate verb patterns.
