Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the main subject and report several accurate figures, including working at 33% and 42%, sleeping at 32% and 25%, and relaxing at home at 8% and 13%. However, the overview is not consistently accurate: relaxing at home increased, but it did not increase “slightly” in comparison with all categories, and the claim that adults spent most of their time relaxing at home in 1958 contradicts the chart, where working was highest. You also omit playing sports in the detailed account and do not clearly compare its appearance in 2008. The response is 8 words below the required minimum. To make the summary more complete, give a clear overview of the largest rises and falls, then support it with accurate comparisons across both years.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for 1958 and 2008. This helps the reader locate information, and phrases such as “On the other hand” and “In contrast” show an attempt to connect comparisons. However, the overview repeats ideas and the links are sometimes illogical: “On the other hand relaxing at home was also increased” does not establish a clear contrast, and “In contrast sleeping was also decresed” is awkwardly connected. The body paragraphs list figures with limited progression, while “family time is more than 2008” is unclear. Grouping activities by increases and decreases, and using clearer comparison links, would make the information flow more logically.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant task vocabulary such as “percentage,” “working,” “sleeping,” and “travelling to work,” so the reader can generally understand the categories being described. However, the range is limited and several phrases are repetitive or imprecise, including repeated use of “percentage” and “spent time in relaxing at home.” Some word choices also obscure the intended comparison, as in “family time is more than 2008,” and “both are increased” is not a natural way to describe chart changes. Spelling errors such as “decresed” are noticeable. Build a wider set of accurate verbs and comparison phrases, and check spelling and collocations before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

Most sentences use simple structures, and the basic meaning of many figures is understandable. There are frequent errors in verb forms and sentence construction, however: “relaxing at home is at 8%” and “adults working percentage is 42%” do not use natural grammatical patterns for reporting data. Tense and agreement are also inconsistent, as in “was also increased” and “both are increased.” Several sentences are fragments or lack a clear relationship between clauses, such as “The percentage of adults sleeping at 32%.” Punctuation and spacing are uneven, particularly where sentences run together after full stops. Practise complete comparative sentences using forms such as “the proportion rose from…to…” and maintain consistent past-tense reporting.
