Student answer (Band 4.0)

Firstly if we talk about the old generation in 1958, they were pure and healthy due to their routine. They spend most of their time with family and friends. Thats why they had a good relationship with everyone in their life. But as compared to new generation, they dont spend much time with family and friends due to their selfishnes. Everyone is in the chase of money and resources. They dont have enough time for gatherings. However sports was played for keeping a healty body and wise mind. But it is a profession in this new era. But the ratio is as same as then. Humans were very hardworking in previou centuries but they never disturb their health and time for the lac of money as compared to these days. They make their self busy mostly in different home tasks for their own good but it is a quite opposite nowadays. They also had a perfect sleeping shechdule that was the best part for maintaing their health.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

The response is largely off-topic for an Academic Task 1 report. It discusses whether people in 1958 were healthier, more family-oriented and hardworking, and makes unsupported claims about modern people being selfish, rather than objectively summarising the charts. There are a few relevant references: you mention time with friends and family, sports, work and sleep, but you do not report the chart’s key comparisons accurately or systematically. For example, work rose from 33% to 42%, while time spent with friends and family fell from 19% to 6%; neither change is clearly stated. The claim that the sports ratio was the same is also unsupported, since sports appears only in the 2008 chart. Focus on the largest changes and give the figures without judging people’s lifestyles.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5

There is some basic progression through comparisons between 1958 and the present, and linking words such as “However” and “But” show attempts to connect ideas. However, the response does not have a clear report structure: it lacks an overview of the main chart trends and moves between family life, money, sports, work and sleep without grouping the information. Several transitions introduce opinions rather than chart-based comparisons, so the reader cannot follow a consistent line of reporting. Organise the response into an introduction, a brief overview, and paragraphs comparing the main figures. Use linking expressions to show specific relationships, such as increases and decreases, rather than repeatedly contrasting generations.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use a range of everyday vocabulary, including “relationship,” “resources,” “gatherings” and “profession,” and the general meaning is usually understandable. However, much of the vocabulary is suited to an opinion essay rather than a chart report, and some choices are imprecise or unnatural, such as “pure,” “in the chase of money,” and “disturb their health and time.” Spelling errors, including “selfishnes,” “healty,” “previou” and “shechdule,” also reduce accuracy. Build a set of precise terms for describing proportions and change, such as “accounted for,” “increased,” “declined” and “remained stable.” Prefer neutral wording and avoid unsupported descriptions of people’s character or motives.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response includes both simple statements and attempts at longer, connected sentences, for example, “But as compared to new generation, they dont spend much time…” This shows some ability to link clauses, and the main message can generally be understood. However, control is uneven: “They spend most of their time” shifts from the past context, while “sports was played” has an awkward passive construction and “They make their self busy” has an unclear pronoun structure. Articles and punctuation are also inconsistent, as in “compared to new generation” and the missing apostrophes in “Thats” and “dont.” Practise accurate past-tense reporting and simpler sentence patterns before adding more complex clauses.
