Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You identify the main pattern that working took the largest share in both years, and you report several key figures accurately, including work (33% to 42%), sleep (32% to 25%), and time with friends or family (19% to 6%). The comparison between the years and the overview show that you understand the charts. However, the overview is not fully precise: travelling and socialising were not both among the smallest categories in both years, and sports appears only in 2008. The statement that relaxing at home “shows rose” is also unclear, although the figures later indicate its increase from 8% to 13%. To strengthen the response, make the overall changes explicit and compare the categories that rose, fell, or appeared in only one year more clearly.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate descriptions of 1958 and 2008. This gives the reader a generally coherent route through the information, and phrases such as “On the other hand” signal the shift between years. Some connections are less effective, however. The overview combines several trends in one sentence, while the final paragraph lists figures without consistently showing how they relate to the earlier year. Punctuation and spacing also make transitions harder to follow, as in “7%.and least slice”. Use clearer sentence boundaries and organise each comparison around a trend—for example, increases in work and commuting, followed by decreases in sleep and socialising—to make progression more controlled.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “proportion”, “accounting for”, “dominant”, and “slice”, and you attempt a range of ways to describe shares and comparisons. However, several choices are unnatural or imprecise, such as “dominant source”, “least quotas”, and “topmost piece”. There are also spelling and word-form errors, including “slepping” and “grow”, which reduce the accuracy of the description. Some phrases, such as “maximum percentage was working”, are understandable but not idiomatic for reporting data. Aim for a smaller set of precise collocations—“accounted for the largest share”, “the smallest proportion”, and “rose to”—and check spelling and word forms carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including the contrast introduced by “Although” and the comparison “when compares with 1958”. However, control is inconsistent, and several sentences contain errors that make the relationships between figures less clear. For example, “The pie charts demonstrates” has subject–verb disagreement, while “working proportion is the dominant source” lacks a natural grammatical construction. In “topmost piece was working is 42%”, the sentence structure is faulty, and “relaxing at home ratio is 13% it grow” joins clauses without correct punctuation or verb forms. Practise building complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and use accurate past-tense forms when describing changes between the two years.
