Student answer (Band 6.0)
The pie chart compares the data of 1958 and 2008 highlighting how jobholders spent their leisure time daily.
Overall, more than quarter of the time is being spend at work in both the years with the increase of work proportion in 2008 followed by a decrease in sleep by 7% and going out with family and friends by 13%.Least activity performed in both the years is travelling to work which significantly increase in 2008 then in 1958.
The chart illustrates that the working proportion increased by 9% in 2008 rising from 33% to 42% followed by an increase in travelling to work and relaxing at home by 5% in 2008 compared to 1958 with the figures rised from 2% to 7% and 8% to 13% respectively.
Additionally, a massive decline is observed in people doing outing with their friends and family from 19% to 6% followed by reduction in sleep from 32% to 25%. However, playing sports remains nearly same in both the years.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main changes in work, sleep, travel and socialising, and most figures are accurate: work rises from 33% to 42%, while sleep falls from 32% to 25% and going out falls from 19% to 6%. The overview also recognises the increase in work and decline in sleep and social activity. However, the claim that travelling to work was the least activity in both years overlooks playing sports at 7% in 2008, which is tied with travel. More importantly, “playing sports remains nearly same” is unsupported: it appears only in the 2008 chart, so no comparison is possible. Clarify that the categories differ between years and make the overview more precise by identifying the largest shares and notable changes.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, an overview and two paragraphs reporting details. Information is generally grouped sensibly, with the first detail paragraph covering increases and the second covering declines. Linking expressions such as “Overall,” “Additionally” and “However” help signal relationships, although some connections feel mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “followed by.” The overview also combines several trends in a long sentence, making the comparison harder to follow, and the final contrast introduced by “However” does not accurately establish a comparison for sports. Improve progression by separating the overview into clearer statements and using more precise links between related figures. Add spaces after full stops to make paragraph flow easier to read.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for describing chart data, including “proportion,” “increased,” “decline” and “reduction.” These choices communicate the main trends, and terms such as “massive decline” show an attempt to vary your language. Some expressions are imprecise or unnatural for this task: “compares the data” is less direct than describing what the charts show, and “jobholders spent their leisure time” conflicts with the inclusion of working time. “Least activity performed” and “doing outing” are also awkward collocations. There are spelling and word-form slips, including “rised,” which reduce accuracy. Aim for standard chart language and precise activity labels, rather than using emphatic wording where a neutral description is more suitable.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including comparisons with “from 33% to 42%” and a sentence beginning “Additionally.” The main information is usually understandable, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “more than quarter” needs an article, and “is being spend” has an incorrect verb form and tense. In “Least activity performed in both the years is travelling,” the sentence lacks a clear grammatical construction; “which significantly increase” also has a subject–verb agreement error. The long overview sentence is difficult to control, and missing spaces after full stops affect punctuation. Use complete, shorter sentences where needed, check verb forms and agreement, and proofread articles and sentence boundaries.
