Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main overall pattern accurately: work took the largest share in both years and rose, while sleeping and socialising declined. The figures you give for work, sleep, socialising and commuting in 1958, and for work, sleep and socialising in 2008, match the chart. However, the comparison is not fully developed: you say travel and relaxation increased but give neither 2008 figure, and you omit the 7% share for playing sports in 2008. Also, the overview says relaxation increased without clearly distinguishing it from travel, and the 2008 paragraph does not report the actual changes for either category. Include the key figures and make the new sports category explicit to cover the data more fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, an overview and separate paragraphs for the two years. The progression from the broad trends to year-specific details is easy to follow, and linking expressions such as “Overall,” “In contrast” and “By 2008” help guide the reader. This already provides a coherent arrangement, but cohesion is not consistently controlled: “In contrast” is used for several different relationships, and the final sentence groups travel and relaxation together without explaining their separate figures. There are also distracting sentence-boundary and capitalisation issues, such as “while” beginning the overview sentence in lowercase. Use transitions more precisely and connect each comparison directly to its data.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of task-related vocabulary, including “proportion,” “occupied,” “declined” and “increased,” so the main comparisons are understandable. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “highest time consuming activity,” although this collocation is awkward and repeated. Several word-choice, spelling and form errors reduce precision: “memebers,” “seconed,” and “repectively” are misspelled, while “leisure at house” is not a natural description of relaxing at home. Prefer concise, accurate chart language—for example, “accounted for the largest share” and “time spent relaxing at home.” Vary repeated phrases and check spelling carefully to make the vocabulary more controlled.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including comparisons with “while” and clauses such as “making it the highest…”; meaning is generally clear. However, some grammatical errors remain. In “work utilize 33%,” the verb form and tense do not fit the past-time description; “working adults time” needs a possessive form; and “the least time consuming activity” requires an article and a more suitable grammatical construction. The overview also has a sentence fragment beginning “while,” and the comma in “activity while, time…” interrupts the clause incorrectly. Capitalisation after full stops is inconsistent. Review past-tense reporting, possessives, articles and sentence boundaries, while retaining the range of structures you are attempting.
