Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the main contrast that working takes a larger share in 2008 while sleeping and socialising take smaller shares, and you include several relevant figures. However, the account is only partially accurate: playing sports is not shown in 1958, so the claim that adults spent 7% on it that year is incorrect. The overview also says working and sleeping were the main activities in both years, but does not clearly highlight the substantial fall in going out with friends and family, from 19% to 6%, or the rise in commuting. The final comparison is unfinished, which leaves the report without a complete concluding summary. Select the key changes accurately and give a concise, complete overview before detailing the figures.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic structure, moving from an introduction and overview to separate descriptions of 1958 and 2008. Phrases such as “First of all” and “On the other hand” signal the shift between years, and the figures are generally grouped by chart. However, progression is limited: the final sentence begins “Comparatively” but stops mid-thought, disrupting the ending. Some linking is mechanical, and the repeated “Adult devoted” pattern makes the report feel like a list rather than a connected comparison. Organise the body around the most important changes across both years, and use clear references and linking phrases to connect related figures without repeating the same sentence frame.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant task vocabulary, including “devoted,” “followed by,” and “travelling to work,” and the reader can usually understand the activities being compared. However, the range is limited and several choices or forms are inaccurate: “the working of adults” does not naturally describe how adults spent their time, while “giong” is a spelling error and “playing the sport” is an awkward expression. Repetition of “time,” “adult,” and “devoted” also limits precision. Use standard chart-reporting collocations and vary the verbs used to describe proportions and changes. For example, describe a category as “accounting for” a share, or say that its proportion “rose” or “fell.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
Most sentences communicate a basic comparison, but the range is limited and errors occur frequently enough to make some phrases difficult to follow. The opening, “during the 1958 and 2008,” has an incorrect time expression, and “during the both year” appears more than once; these need forms such as “in both years.” There are also problems with articles and agreement in “adult spent” and “going out … were,” as well as the incomplete final sentence, “most of”. Sentence patterns rely heavily on simple statements beginning “Adult devoted.” Practise accurate plural forms and articles, and combine comparisons using controlled clauses such as “while” or “whereas” to broaden the structure.
