Student answer (Band 6.0)
The pie carts demonstrate the way in which employees allocate their time in a particular nation in the years 1958 and 2008.
Overall, according to both charts, working adults spent the majority of time in working, in both years, while in 1958 travelling to work was the least popular and in 2008 going out with friends and families accounted for the lowest proportion.
To begin with, in 1958 the working sector stood at 33%; however, during the following 50 years it increased considerably and made up 42% of the total. In terms of sleeping, this category was at 32% in 1958. Nevertheless, it is clear that over the years individuals spend less time sleeping and in 2008 speeping recorded 25%. In 1958, people used to spend only 8% of their time in relaxing at home, while this proportin grew slightly in 2008 and became 13%.
With regard to going out with friends and family memebers, this activity was more common in 1958 and people werespending 19% of the total time. This rate plunged in 2008 and accounted for 6%. Travelling to work figured 2% and 7% in 1958 and 2008 respectively. In addition, in 2008 spent time on playing sports was 7%, while the rate of this sactori is not given for 1958.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main overall pattern: work takes the largest share in both years, while the smallest category changes from commuting to socialising. Most reported figures are accurate, including work rising from 33% to 42%, sleep falling from 32% to 25%, and socialising dropping from 19% to 6%. The comparison of home relaxation and commuting is also relevant. However, the overview could capture the full picture more clearly: sports appears in 2008 at 7%, and several categories change substantially, but these shifts are not synthesised. The claim that adults spent the “majority” of time working is imprecise, since 33% and 42% are the largest shares, not more than half. Develop the overview around the largest increases and decreases for a more complete summary.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear four-part structure, moving from an introduction and overview to comparisons of work, sleep, relaxation, socialising, commuting and sport. Paragraphing helps the reader follow the information, and linking phrases such as “To begin with” and “With regard to” signal topic changes. However, some connections feel mechanical, and the final paragraph groups several unrelated categories without a strong organising principle. The contrastive “however” after the 1958 work figure is not especially necessary, while “Nevertheless” before the sleep decline is also somewhat formulaic. Grouping increases together and decreases together, or comparing the categories in a more consistent order, would create smoother progression. The reference to “this rate” is understandable but could be more precise.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use a suitable range of chart-reporting vocabulary, including “accounted for,” “proportion,” “plunged,” and “stood at,” and the meaning is generally clear. There are also attempts to vary phrasing rather than repeat “spent.” Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, however: “pie carts” should be “pie charts,” “the working sector” is unnatural for an activity, and “the rate of this sactori” is unclear. Spelling slips such as “speeping,” “proportin,” “memebers,” and “werespending” reduce precision. “The majority of time in working” is also an unsuitable expression; use “the largest share of their time working.” More accurate collocations and careful proofreading would make the vocabulary more controlled.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “while” and “that,” and most relationships between ideas remain understandable. Some grammatical errors persist. For example, “individuals spend less time sleeping” shifts into the present tense when describing the chart’s past years; “individuals spent” would maintain the reporting tense. The sentence “in 2008 spent time on playing sports was 7%” lacks a clear grammatical subject and has an awkward construction. In “this activity was more common in 1958 and people werespending,” the verb form and tense are not well controlled. There are also occasional article and preposition issues, as in “spent the majority of time in working.” Aim for consistent past-tense reporting and check that each sentence has a clear subject and a complete verb structure.
