Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the two years and mention several relevant categories, including work, sleep, travel, socialising and sport. However, the account is only minimally focused on summarising the charts: it gives no clear overview of the main changes and includes little accurate numerical comparison. For example, you correctly state that sleeping accounted for 32% in 1958, but do not report that work rose from 33% to 42%, sleep fell to 25%, and time spent going out dropped from 19% to 6%. The claim that adults spent time with family after going out is not a separate chart feature. Focus on the largest changes and support them with figures, rather than adding opinions about the benefits of sport.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has a basic sequence, moving from 1958 to 2008, and paragraph breaks help distinguish the two years. Some linking phrases, such as “firstly” and “as compare,” also signal a change in focus. However, the ideas within each paragraph are not arranged into a clear comparison, and connections between statements are often difficult to follow. For instance, the 1958 paragraph shifts from work and travel to sleep and then to friends and family without explaining how these categories compare. The 2008 paragraph similarly mixes chart information with comments about health. Organise the response around an overview followed by grouped comparisons, and use clear references to the years and categories.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use basic vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “working,” “sleeping,” “relaxing at home” and “playing sports,” so the reader can identify some of the chart categories. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations make the meaning unclear, such as “more tome give the working,” “give time for friends,” and “spent quality time.” Spelling errors, including “perticular,” “freinds” and “thier,” also reduce clarity. Avoid vague phrases such as “other work” when naming a chart category. Practise accurate expressions for proportions and change, such as “accounted for,” “rose to” and “fell from,” and check spelling before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt both short statements and longer sentences, and the reader can sometimes infer the intended meaning. However, grammatical errors are frequent and at times distort the message. Examples include “The adult … spent their time,” where number agreement is inconsistent, and “The adults in 1958 more tome give the working,” which lacks a clear verb structure. The sentence beginning “After the come for them” is also difficult to interpret, while “they actively participates” has incorrect subject–verb agreement. Punctuation and sentence boundaries are unreliable, including the opening fragment and the lowercase “.it.” Build accurate simple sentences first, then practise combining them with “while” or “whereas” to make comparisons.
